Description "So much for seeking power, you little brat".
At least, that was what they said, by then. He probably knew that it wouldn't end that way. Not just like that, without a fight. He didn't speak a single word after the day he was captured. Although silent, his eyes would never avert from the sky above. As if he was willing to say: one day I'll be out of here. I'll break out of this chains and move the sky again.

Yeah, this was an insane amount of work. The first time I did a real digital painting again, after 2 long years, and I've learned quite a lot along the process. Like to stop being afraid of making mistakes and merging everything in one layer, to speed up the process (and that was really needed. Even though my computer is pretty fast it took me over 3GB of ram to work on this thing). But I'm glad to say my work gets more and more like how it is in my head.

That... and too many Yuki Kajiura soundtracks: www.youtube.com/watch?v=To6KHE… www.youtube.com/watch?v=QelGyP… www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ce7StF… www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4Fea8…

The light got the colors looking like a blue hue, but the black texture is predominant. But the real captivating aspect on that drawing for me are the small blue led or lanterns. It isn't a source of light on that picture but I can't stop looking at them, and if I do, they will be riding together with. Many people sees the dark as a bad thing, but I see that as another work from the nature. Well that work is dark, but if one man wants to get free... it will not happen without his dream and the consequent fighting.

This is what happens when an artist does something absolutely right.

Okay, first let me say, I'm not 100% or even 50% familiar with the source material, so this is a review as an outsider looking in. And, I really like it. You display a lot of emotion in simple expressions, and even with the person bound, you can actually see hope in his eyes. It definitely gives a real feeling. You have a great idea of what you want to do, and it's really pinpointed, right down to the minute details. I can't say anything as far as originality, because I don't know if this is your own series, or if it's a previously made manga. But as a stand alone piece, I've yet to find something as deep as this as far as stand alone pieces go. You have a really distinct art style, and I'll be serious, I actually shoot for something not too far off from this, and I could definitely say you're a role model artist for me personally. And lastly, this really left an impact, and I'd say if I had a "Top Ten Best Stand Alone Art Pieces," this would definitely make it on the list.

Nice Work Again,

~R

Just to answer the question; The piece is not from any kind of manga. It's based on the characters from a novel I'm writing

So I'm taking this character had just had his butt handed to him (looks very feminine).

It has a good 'spiritual' feeling to it, though it seems a bit plain.

He seems very much so by himself, with nothing to do, though your description includes dialog of his opponent.
This would definitely carry more impact if you would have the camera on the shoulder of the offender and the victim with a hopeless/defeated look, or some other expression that would fit better.

On the technical side, the composition seems empty, though that could be intended. The human form is rendered well, some parts appear flat/seldom shaded, but that would be being too picky.

Overall, good work from a great artist.

I love the use of a sort of monotone color sceme. The lighting is done wonderfully, and I love the way portrayed emotion so clearly. It's stunning. Originality is at it's peak in this picture, I believe.
The only thing is you could have portrayed is some more movement.
I think the face is well done, however. I love the lips and the shading of the nose, and the eyes is what gives away what he's feeling. His hair could've been a little bit more mussed. But what you have done is very appealing to the eye. High marks on everything!

Looking at your artwork, I cannot find anything about it that I don't like. I love the soft, serene colors, and how the simplistic background draws attention to the character. Another thing I really liked was the soft glow you gave to the accessories, as well as in the character's eyes. It lends a depth and beauty to your drawing that can best be described as haunting. The story that goes with the artwork is brilliant as well, and I would gladly pay to see your work published professionally. Your piece moved me in a way that art rarely does, and I loved everything about it. Brilliant work.

For a lack of a better word, i will say this, your work is amazing. I love how you fine tuned the details of the suit and the jail cuffs and weights to add a sci fi feel to the art, and i love how you even added the finer details to the suit such as the hexagonal patterns visible on the suit. I love the vivid luminance given from the small round orbs on the human, adding a sort of fantasy and mysterious, magical feel to the painting. I also love the magical circle added on the top holding his hands together, making the viewer wonder about the structure of the world outside the cell. The soft lighting from the window of the jail cell (i assume) makes it all the more dark on one side, yet mysterious on the other side which adds a sense of balance between the emotions the viewer feels. The only thing i have to say that could be improved on this is that the curves on the suit be made more smaller, since by looking at it by far, i thought the character portrayed was a female... but after enlarging the picture, i can tell that it looks more like a male. I am not really sure why it looked like a female from far away on the face, but i was mistaken by the collars of the tight suit to be the continuation of the hair, but when i looked closer, it looks more like a male now, so i dont really have any other things to say other than you could improve the shading of the different colors to make it the painting 'flow' more

You have captured perfectly the harmony between fantasy and darkness. I think the mixture between the blue and the black form a perfect painting and, of course, I like a lot the black circle in the wall. I have seen that you painted two kind of buttons? Well, it looks really beautiful and brilliant. I have never seen something like this before and I really want you to continue making this, and if you can teach all of us how to do it, I think we all will be enthusiasted. That's all I have to say. Thank you very much. Awesome.

This painting is really nice. I love your use of light and the colour scheme's great, it works very well with the subject. The little spashes of bright blue really add a lot to the painting, especially in his eyes! Other people wrote this in their critique too, but yeah I love his expression. I can actually sense his emotion which is cool. You're pretty accurate and detailed. Two things: I feel like his right leg should be a bit more to the left, and the middle clump of hair seems a little bit flat. Other than that, amazing artwork!

Yes, Kajiura Yuki soundtracks. They always inspire me, too. This character looks extremely beautiful. And the name fits him.
The work is very good, too, I like such style, lineless, but accurate. His facial expression is so cute. Just like it was said, yummy.
I really find it hard to critique this rtwork, though, because everything seems just fine. but there are few mistakes. First, when the mouth is slightly opened, there are no teeth visible, so it should be coloured greyish red\peach\pink. And also his pose looks a bit unnatural, as if he's not touching the wall (or what it is, but with such legs it's hard to keep the balance. And the leg, which is up looks fat a little, but the character itself is pretty skinny.
Oh my, I just cannot find more mistakes. that has to be the best artwork I critiqued, because it's usually over 300 words, and at least 33.33% of it are about mistakes.
And I'm going to read about this character, he caught my interest.

When I was going through the hundreds of deviants in my message box I came across this one and refused to just take it off. I looked at it for a while and was amazed at the colors, the technique, and the face of this OC! It made me want too look at more of this artists work and so I shall after this.

The one thing I cannot get over from this digital painting is, for one: it's digital but the bigger thing is the face. Artist, even myself. Struggle to make the face have a true, readable emotion. This happened perfectly and I condradulate the artist and envy your skills. You have done a great job.

Although this is a very nice piece, deviants seem to use the star rating way too high. This isn't a perfect piece, so It doesn't need something with a 'perfect' rating.

I do like the colors, and the monochrome with a touch of blue, the shape of the guys body, the texture on the body suit. Lovely.

Yes, the material for oil painting is very expensive.
The best of digital painting is that it has Ctrll + Z.
In traditional painting, a wrong brushstroke is difficult to correct.

DamaiMikaz In reply to zanchi-PHOENIX [2014-08-08 12:20:00 +0000 UTC]

The trick with the one-layer painting, though, is that you do it without the ctrl-Z option.
That's the way you'll learn most
