Wow, this is great. I thought it was a wonderful painting at first, but something was ... un-painting-like? I mostly felt so when I looked at her face, but even though there were indicators, I did not think that it was a render. Hence I opted to congratulate you on that unique painting style you have and read the description. Hah! It's a render. Too awesome. Now that I look at it, I can see it, but only in the things I already thought were off. Wonderful work, and still a unique style. You have put in so much detail, there is a lot to look at, but the eyes still focus on the portion that matters and you designed to be the first thing to look at: the general area of and around her head. Uh, is what I think, anyway.

Thank you!! I love 3D, sculptures and drawings, so I try to mix them all. I can use photorealistic textures or simulate them, but, in the end, I really love this "hand painted style", as it were a miniature figure. In fact, there are other better ways to simulate real water, but it was not the intention. And, as you say, I think it works and the eyes focus in that wavy and watery "hair" around the face. Thanks for the deep evaluation and comment, I really appreciate it.

I love 3D, too, although I mostly do it for gaming, so the amount of sculpting is rather miniscule. But I think my familiarity with 3D is what tipped me off; otherwise I might have not seen anything at all. Personally, I love things that aren't done like anyone would do it, and the easier or better way does not yield the same result as other, maybe more tedious ones. What I find praiseworthy in this piece is the level of craftsmanship and the merging of techniques to create a piece of art that is unique to you. Realistic water looks always the same, whoever makes it. It may be more difficult to achieve, but why would realism be equal to "looks better"? Well, I already text-walled you what I think. I, in turn, want to thank you for your reply and your appreciation; I mostly only get "Thanks!" whatever effort I put in, if even that. It's kind of heart-warming. Although you don't have to thank me; you creating and sharing such lovely work certainly took more time than for me to type up my comment(s).

Thank you!!!
50-60 hours more or less, from 2d sketch, to modeling, painting, preparing materials, lights and shadows, and finally rendering. Soon I'll upload some timelapse videos with all the process and making of!

This is a sculpture? I wouldn't have been able to tell (except for some slight texture distortion around her legs.) This is magnificent.

DarkAkelarre In reply to Erdosin [2014-06-07 00:15:48 +0000 UTC]
Yes it is! In fact, that distortion is due to a low poligon counter in that area. I couldn't add another subdivision to the main model, it was too heavy to work with it smoothly. Thanks!
