Description Island One - Hideo City.

After reaching "The End of the Line", making your way through the woods with all their various swamps, Halfway Houses & strange places, and after walking along the dangerous cliff path beside the coast, one can sometimes reach the Unmapped Ocean.

Rafts made out of people are available to take you to the various islands.

This first island is "Hideo City" - a horrible place where the doctors are torturers and murderers. Corruption and pollution are rife, and the Ugly Birds who live here pick through the revolting garbage endlessly.

The inhabitants are liars, traitors, betrayers, narcissists and beings who abuse &/or neglect the ones that they are closest to.

The woman lying face down in the street here has been killed by the irrationality and horrors of the place. Another part of her personality has been born from the garbage of her dead self and will continue to travel onwards.

I hated drawing this picture. It seems that drawings of ugly places that you hate take longer to complete than those that you like.

Watercolor & fineliner.
Completed March 31st, 2013.

The imagery is horrible, but very evocative; this nightmare isn't far removed from some parts of the waking world.

I'm glad you made it out alive.

I love them!

It's not necessary however that you reply to every comment (although I appreciate the effort very much) . I imagine for someone of your talent that gets to be a job in itself after a while!!
Just keep up the terrific work! For me, that's gratitude enough. !!

well, i think some years ago i went through a time with a scenario sort of like this and i feel much better now, although it left scars... sometimes i got the feeling that even a soul can have scars, i'm not sure about it...
again a book comes to my mind, which i read many years ago and which is often in my mind, but which i didn't dare to read again yet... "western lands" by w. burroughs - i think it might be very interesting and informative for you...

Thanks very much for the book recommendation!! I've read some works by Burroughs, but not that one.

I'm grieved that you can identify with this drawing, though.

Do souls have scars? I don't know. I do know that some rot away. I'm glad to say that mine is healthy, as far as I know, and I'm sure that yours is too.

If I was to be honest with you, I found myself very disgusted when I saw this work initiallly... but after taking several views of it, and then reading the artist description, I'm somewhat at ease...

Here's my interpretation of what they represent (because its the only way I can stay sane after experiencing this... *gulp*...):

the birds are picking out and scavenging what has crossed or is not following the path... while the humans are simply... looking for an opportunity to rip apart the hopeless who walks the fine line between necrosis and degeneration. Even if they walk this path, there're a variety of interpretations one can make: the man with the knife behind his back is hypocrisy; the leaning man with the hat, insecurity; the bird coming out of the "water"... is a vulgar phoenix, signifying the rebirth of purgatory... there's more in this but, looking at it further and further... I really don't feel comfortable with it...

Reminiscent of *NotenSMSK 's mind... that's both a compliment and a reminder of your ability to dwelve into any viewer's weaknesses... and put them out on display... Kudos for that... keep posting...

respect due - a very helpful interpretation - i was about to skip this picture, because it looks indeed so uneasy... but with your hints in mind i'll take a look now - thank you for sharing your thoughts...

Thanks so much!! I totally agree that it's a disgusting drawing - a horrible one. I didn't enjoy drawing it & it seemed to take ages!!!

Your symbolism is so astute!! Thank you for taking the time to look at the whole mess so deeply and accurately!!

The picture represents a time that I went through recently that led up to an even worse time (well, in some ways, anyway) that is now (hopefully) resolved. Sometimes we have to go through hideous circumstances with disgusting people to get to something better, but I hope that now I've gotten through these circumstances.

My next drawing will be a bit horrible too, but not as bad as this one, I think. I don't know why, but I find the next one soothing, but this one? NO!!!

but in the end you pulled through, and that's the lesson learnt... That we must face the worst... just so that we can rise up and deliver...

I'm hoping that you're doing alright... and that things are somehow better... for you and your family.

I saw your latest drawing, I'll manage to get to it whenever I can manage.

Dark, devious and stuffed with the kind of detail that makes a miscreant like myself all hot and bothered! I love your work, I could look at for hours - and even when I finish looking at it I feel like I should at least leave one eye behind to see what I may have missed.

Thank you very much, my friend!! Your comments always mean a great deal, because you're such a fabulous artist. Tell me - do you print out copies of "Flump"? Are they available anywhere for purchase in hard copy?

In answer to your question, nope - FLUMP is strictly digital at the mo and run on donations. I can't afford to print it out but I keep saving what I can and one day I'll collect the first few Volumes together and make them real! That's the dream anyhoo.

I think the characters hanging out in the background of this piece are really interesting. The bearded guy especially, although I don't have a good reason for feeling this way. I just keep looking at him.

darkallegiance666 In reply to erosarts [2013-04-17 22:16:10 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure, but I think that the bearded guy represents one of my sons. It's not a nasty depiction of him, but it does represent his addictions, which he struggles with. The poor guy is an expert in having to to through withdrawal - including Coca-Cola, Pepsi, sugar & takeaways, among other things.

Thanks very much for your comment!!

Thank you!!

It's an ugly place, so I chose colors that represented it, although the blue is a bit too nice, I think.
