"Hexxus hated humans as much as forests, and fairies, and fresh air and everything else that represented life, but now he discovered there was one thing he liked about humans - their machines!The oil gave Hexxus substance, and the fumes he inhaled pumped him up, until he was bigger than he'd ever been before. He liked being the size and shape of a dense, black cloud, because it gave him greater scope for destruction.
So, tonight, while the FernGully mob looked for Crysta, Hexxus tested his new-found strength. With his fiery eyes burning, he glided through the forest as a dark swirling mist and killed everything he touched. He discovered that he could kill whole sections of the forest with one blast of his toxic breath. Right now he was enjoying himself, because he knew it was only a matter of time before he destroyed the whole forest and every living thing in it."

Maybe the chemical and nuclear/radioactive waste we left behind? They are consider hazardous to people and the environment. That is if he can find them, they buried deep and reinforced with thick steel and concrete.

Heheh, that's true, though Hexxus is the spirit of destruction, which means he could take other forms, such as being the force of violence that leads to war and terrorism, and so forth. I kind of thought of him as something more general than just environmental destruction.

Neat picture! I love the way you mixed in the drawn Hexxus with the real smokestacks to make seem like he's actually coming out of them. And in a way, he really is.
I never read the book, but I've seen the movie, and I must say, it was fantasmical! A can't find it now, though. It's lost!
