If I remember heraldic colors right - one knight from Bohemia, another from Burgundy and ... who is the last one???

You got Burgundy right. These are northern participants the Siege of Carcassonne, 1209. Duke Eudes of Burgundy, Guillaume des Roches and Simon de Montfort.

You are not wrong It is our Bohemian medieval coat of arms. Always white two-tailed lion on a red background.
But the two tails has to cross each other. Simon de Montfort's lion looks almost the same, but the tails are not crossing each other

Nice colors on the piece, and excellent scene too. Nway, is that guy on the far left sporting a partly covered crusader's cross happens to be Simon de Montfort?

It was successful anyway. In that particular war there was more that was gory than there was glory.

Those are some very rich colors, and I love how deep and dark the shadows go--the important figures and elements really stand out. Very nice!

Sir-Catherine [2007-01-27 04:32:30 +0000 UTC]

Can you fill me in on what the Siege of Carcassonne was?

Are the banners shown in the painting actual ones from the siege's history or ones you made up?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dashinvaine In reply to Sir-Catherine [2007-01-28 00:56:51 +0000 UTC]

The banners are actual ones, and include the lion of Simon de Montfort. The siege was in 1209 during the so-called Albigensian Crusade.
