Description Scene 41 of 'The Blackguard' (start: [link] )

The tall demon hauled Asterith up stairs, through a great portal, and into the mountain. She found herself being pulled and shunted along a great passageway hew out of the dark rock. On either side of her the walls were lined with great stones, spoilia from ancient monuments, friezes, tomb slabs, intricately carved capitals and heads of colossal statues. They were trophies of former victories in dark times of old. The remains of cities that had been swept from the map. She beheld the carved heads of kings and queens of Aratan, some stacked on their side or upside down, to add insult to injury. It seems these relics had been left here to await her own arrival. Was she to be another trophy or something worse? She already felt a heavy sense of doom on her soul, but worse sights awaited her.

---

They hauled her into Serpion's Door
and through a mighty hall
where looted carvings from the south
lay piled against each wall.
Great colossi, carved in stone
dismembered and upended:
The ancient kings of Aratan
from whom she was descended.
A bitter thing to see these stones
stacked in a place so dread
Yet manifold more chilling sights
awaited up ahead...

It's not often when I see people...or things... able to transfer this sort of an atmosphere.
It's a fairy tale, definitely. The fairy tale from my childhood.

This is really cool. Quite an atmosphere in that place--makes someone feel... small. Small and insignificant. Fantastic idea and great drawing!
