Earlier today terrorists broke into the headquarters of satyric French newspaper “Charlie Hebdo” killing at least 12 people. 4 of the people dead were caricature-artists, whom I would call ‘my colleagues’. Artists who used their gifts and talents to push the boundaries, putting to drawn-lines what words could not say, and stood for what they believe in. This was a deliberate attack on them and the team at the newspaper, a direct attack on freedom of speech and the people defending it. I am heart broken for the lives taken so brutally away from their families. I am heart broken for important voices lost from the art world. And I am also heartbroken that once again this sets a wrong conception of the Muslim/Islamic faith. The murders may say they act on behalf of their faith, but they do not act upon God!
This a coloured version of my drawing of the Marianne - the national symbol of France - which was chosen 2 years ago by French president François Hollande to be the image of France's national stamps for 5 years. I thought this image and the Marianne who stands for freedom and unity would fit best to portray my feelings and emotions. We should all stand together against people trying to shut our mouths, chain our hand, and shoot out minds. We should all be living for love.

Mariane looks gorgeous, strong and innocent it's a good job! The colors are soft but nice. I love the effects on the dress and the flag good job for that too! The work on the shading is great and her hair are beautiful.

Do people seriously think France is hardcore...? Or worthy of a lot of attention...? Flipping whimpy French people are saying, "We will stand against terror, and we will FIGHT with our pencils! We shall not be silent! We will die STANDING!"
Ooohhhhh SHUT UP... Don't act like you're badasses. A few people got shot, that's IT... You've still got food, water, medicine, and every modern luxury... So don't act like you're so badass and cool cuz some of your people got shot...

Now... The Palestinians... Now THOSE are badasses. You got flippin dudes with lumber jack beards taking the initiative to dig people out of collapsed buildings BEFORE the rescue trucks arrive! "Yo! GUYS! A sister is trapped in this rubble! LET'S ROCK!!! (Starts to dig her out with their hands before the actual rescue team arrives)" Now THOSE are people fighting and dying for their freedom... People being shot at, bombed, tormented, and oppressed EVERY day... With barely any food, water, or medicine.
So, when I see people giving so much attention to France and acting like the French are so hardcore I'm like... No... You guys aren't cool at all... You're pampered French people living cozy lives...

Lovely drawing. It's important that people should have the freedom to express themselves, too created whatever they want. No matter how negative it may seem, Even if offensive to some, does not mean it should be killed or censored.
Indeed you should have the freedom to disagree and to say "Sorry, but I don't like it." that's fine and all good. and sooner or latter in life there are going to be things that may hurt us, it happens to everyone in life, no matter who you are. But people must understand that, it may not specifically, be for you, but to everyone else, it can be.
Human should have the right to draw what ever they want, when ever they want. No matter if the context represent people in a negative light. criticism holds no man. Anyone can be criticize and mocked, but understand, that, though we can disagree and say "no', does not mean it should be censored. Freedom of speech and expression will triumph.

It should not be a crime to speak when there is need for something to be said, but neither should it garner hate or violence. It should garner curiosity and understanding.

This event in Paris has the hallmarks of a false flag operation to continue with the war on terror.
The news media proclaimed the masked men walked over to a police officer and shot him on the head and the video is blacked out or blurred out.
But people have got hold of the raw footage and it shows that the masked man misses and the shot hits the pavement.
Youtube has tried its best to censor the video but people fortunately keep re-posting pointing out YOU ARE BEING LIED TO!
Whatever happened, it is sad but it is being used as propaganda to continue wars. It appeals to your emotion.
It's ok to feel sad and have solidarity, but don't turn off your thinking when things like this happen.

I'm normally one of those Americans that have a good laugh at the old French jokes that are told constantly over here; however the courage that the people of France have displayed over the last few days is awe inspiring. The unity the French people have shown and fortitude to be together in the open and not be silent is beautiful. It should remind everyone that jokes are fun, but France is a free country full of courageous people who have often been strong friends with the U.S.

Yes this is freedom of speech in it's purest form. Freedom of speech isn't about the respect of others peoples belief it is about the right to express oneself without the risk of being killed for it.
