Description I met Alex my first year at UC San Diego, and it has taken her three years for her to become comfortable enough to let me take a photo of her. Since the beginning, every single time I pointed the camera at her (and I am merciless) she has turned away, shielding her face from the lens. She would tell me things like "If you point the camera at me, it would probably break."

I am really happy about this portrait - not only because it is the first time Alex has really allowed me to take photos of her, but because I feel it tells the story behind the girl who took three years for me to photograph. I love her smile. It is the kind of smile that says, "Oh alright, Chui. I've known you long enough for you to take this one photo ". All of her defenses are lowered for that one moment, and just as quickly (in the second photo) she is back to her old shy self, looking at the ground and thinking, "I can't believe I let him do this."

The best part? Alex told me that she loves the portrait. This one is for you, Alex my friend from the UK. Even though I will never get over your accent, I am glad we have gotten to know one another over the past three.

I love this - it's so real.

I got the impression that she was mildly shy about the photo being taken before I ever read your description. This obviously captures her personality so well.

ah! The old Chui is back!
awesome portrait here...loving your play with the focus here as well. Portraits that capture a personality are the best portraits there are, and you've done it real well here man. You got the scene, and you preserved it- you're gonna smile when you see this pic again just because of the memory you have attatched to it.

fantastic bro, keep these sorta things coming! Its great to see your best style come through once more

Such a great story to go with such great portraits
I can certainly relate to that - one too many of my friends are the same way..

I love the combination of these two shots, and, as you say, the difference in personality between the first and the second shot. I can very well relate to this; my last deviation was of just that situation: A good friend hiding from an innocent little camera

I like the softness of this, oh, and she's got beautiful eyes!

it's so beautifyully natural! The toens are lovely too, and she just looks so real, unlike some models who dimply... don't. Have you used a slight warming tone on it by any chance?

She looks very sweet. You're right, her smile is wonderful. And let's here it for perserverance, huh? Three years is quite a while to wait, but it's totally worth it.

I like these, as well. Especially the sudden change of expression, as you mentioned.

I'm having trouble putting my thoughts into words at the moment, so that's all. <3
