Funny how these are such a big deal in Japan. We used this as kids all the time in elementary school and it was really just 25 cents for a cheap toy or eraser.

I think, it started in the 80ies. I was a kid and collected some rubber made figures.
Maybe you know Kinniku Man. Those stole all my pocket money... ^^°
And the gachapons started to evolve. now it is a big big deal.. ^^°
