Was this taken on a pedestrian crossing? I only ask because that rail looks very shiny, and thus used regularly (even below the B&W effect on this photo), and you do appear to have your back turned to oncoming traffic too.

Ah I see. Yes I can tell the permanent way was non-electrified due to the absence of a third electric rail or overhead live wires, so that wasn't my main concern. My one concern was whether or not it was on a public crossing of any denomination, as there is no evidence of such a location in the shot that we see here, which post questioning is of merit. The one thing the UK and probably most other countries with rail systems of whatever size have is trespass, or unauthorised access to railway land other than on a level/pedestrian crossing or a station platform. Closed lines are a grey area, as they see no traffic obviously, but are still technically railway land or private land if sold off by the railway. Obviously though, none of that happened here, but I do like to be vigilant to try and prevent it happening.
