I would also add that millenials seek help for all sorts of silly reasons to, more so than the older generation. Not to mention I would argue the previous generations in western society dealt with much more hardships than not getting a like on their posts or not having "safe spaces" to seek. We are all spoiled now in the world we live in, this making the simplest of hardships a disaster for the newer generations.

Hun, people didn't talk about these things because of stigma. It's not just about likes. Clearly you don't have mental illness, because it is HELL and now that we finally can open up about it, things are better. Go learn about mental illness and stop treating us like idiots.

I don't think you're idiots. And you're right, I don't have a mental illness. But I also get anxiety. I don't believe they're the same thing. I'm sure there was more of a stigma about voicing your personal health issues back then, but everyone gets anxiety and it seems now a days people are nurturing that sort of behavior. Different people handle anxiety in different ways and I'm more the stance that the best way to rid yourself of being anxious is to take the bull by the horns and deal with it, and not look at it as an impossibility to do so because it's an "illness". Everyone in this world has experienced anxiety at one point or another I'd wager. Being anxious about something you're not comfortable doing is not on par with BPD or dementia, which are definite mental illnesses. I don't need to be medicated because I'm too anxious to be in a large crowd, or walking a dog. Those things can be dealt with with a little personal resolve and self reflection.

Sure, you can do it. We're not all like you.

Maybe. But I don't think you're giving yourself credit. I'm nothing special, and if I can overcome certain anxieties within reason than you most definitely can. Don't sell yourself short. By the way I want to apologize if I offended you in anyway over my post. Wasn't my intention to come off as ignorant.

It's fine. It's just more difficult for some people than it is for others. I can go outside just fine for a few hours, but someone else might be able to do more or less. We're all different and not everyone is able to deal with things the way you or I might do.

I can't afford anything for my dysphoria. Seeking help costs alot of money that most of us don't have.

I'm told that Chinese children have a high rate of anxiety due to parent's expectations and anything less than 100% being unacceptable. At the London Olympics, the British swim team got bronze and they were excited. The Chinese team got silver and they were distraught that they didn't get gold

And don't forget that we didn't make this fucked up world, we inherited it.

Each generation inherits things from all that came before them. This does mean bad things. But also the good things as well. The huge advances in all areas of the world has never been as good as it is now and they all improve at a rate that keeps gaining momentum to the point that it is almost impossible to keep up with. So, I wonder if it is that things are really that bad or the good things are being ignored more so than before.

True, we've inherited good things from the past few generations, but maybe I'm just bitter that they refuse to acknowledge their mistakes and then wonder why we feel the need to remove ourselves from the world sometimes.

The thing I have noticed, and this is coming from a person diagnosed with a number of mental health conditions, is that the focus is more on the negative. If one does not even look at the good things, it can be easy to not feel there is anything good. I do understand there is negative, but I feel there are many more good things than bad.

I agree with this, and it's not the fault of the person but simply how we're wired. You don't notice that you're breathing just fine until the moment you can't. You really gotta learn to take in the good things and appreciate them in today's world if you wanna make it from one day to the next.
