Fun fact: Littlefoot originally says "Now we'll always be together." in the final shot but it was cut.

Huh, that's interesting! I wonder why it was cut? It sounds like it could have made a nice final thought to end the film.
I'm always impressed at how much the community has found out about the previous versions of the movie – and all these original scenes!

Perhaps the "always" part didn't sit well with the creators, who probably thought that some would interpret the Great Valley was heaven and that Littlefoot and his friends "died" upon arrival.
Some people still ended up thinking that though so it never should have been cut. But eh, what can you do.
If you want to hear the line yourself, well there is an old Pizza Hut commercial from around the film's release that features it in the ad. You can view it here, the line plays at the 10 second mark. Here is a gif I made of it as well if you just want to quickly see the shot over and over without audio.

Thanks for the links. That's pretty good quality for a what I assume is an old VHS TV recording – your GIF seems particularly good! Had I have known about this at the time, it would have really helped me figure out how to draw Petrie! He was the real sticking point for this work.
Here's another interesting observation: the way the hug scene is cropped on the screen differs in the advert, too. In the final version of the film, the full hug scene I've drawn above isn't shown complete. By the time the group are standing up, the bottom part of the shot is cut off (since the camera has already zoomed in). However, in the advert, you get to see the whole thing before the zoom happens. Pleasingly, I seem to be almost exactly right in reconstructing the lower portion of the shot!
You know, part of me does wonder whether there's a copy of this uncut version gathering dust in the drawer of an advertising agency somewhere, haha.

It's such a wonderful way to end the film, isn't it? It sums up the themes so well, focusing on the friendship of the characters in a really natural way, so that the film goes out on such a positive note.
I find it really inspiring!
