I have many of these traits and I'm a male. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 40.
I'm not social though - I'm a loner. I prefer it that way.
I'm no chameleon although I can put on the NT if need be but it feels false - like lying and that cuts me to the core so I try to ignore my urge to fit in and fake being NT. It never lasts long anyway. I always get caught out! Something always goes wrong and I'm back to weird again.

Thank you for posting this. I was diagnosed with AS when I was about 5, and more than half of these traits describe me (for better or worse).

This is amazingly accurate. This almost perfectly describes me!

This is magic. I have to assume now that most of the diagnostic criteria on official websites are based around how MALES with AS present. This is the first gender-specific list I've seen.

I was referred by my general practitioner to a neuropsychologist earlier this week and am also scheduled to see an Autism specialist next month sometime for more extensive testing after he was given a list of Autistic-like traits about me over the phone.

I was diagnosed with bipolar five years ago and it just never felt right because the "mania" didn't sound like what I did (become so obsessed with a single thing I literally cannot talk or think about anything else without significant mental discomfort). And then someone suggested I might have Asperger's (because of EXTREME noise sensitivity) and when I started researching it suddenly felt like I had an explanation for everything "wrong" with me. But some of the criteria sounded just a little off. Until I saw this and there's maybe ONE thing from each column that doesn't apply to me.

I have to cut this short of everything I want to say because I talk too damned much sometimes. Thanks for posting.

It is scary how much this describes me. xD Wish my parents could have seen this before I was officially diagnosed.

Almost all of this fits me... and yes I was officially diagnosed. It kinda sucks that I can find almost no other girls like me. o.o'

This is really strange. I started crying reading this. I'd not seen all my "difficulties" ever written out, completely and perfectly before - thank you for putting this on devART! I am going to see a new doctor in two days, and I will ask about Asperger's testing now for sure.

Actually, I might print it out and bring it to my appointment

i fit pretty much every single one of those perfectly... but i'm not officially diagnosed. but there are more NT people than me diagnosed... sad, isn't it?

(i'm not *officially* diagnosed but i think i'm diagnosed with something very similar, and my regular doctor was surprised when i told her i hadn't been diagnosed because her kids are autistic and she knew i was too lol)
