Description Name: Cerberus
MONARCH Codename: HELLHOUND
Scientific name: Infernocanis graecus (Greek hell hound)
Height: 35 meters
Length: 80 meters
Diet: Carnivore
Affiliation: Major Kaiju (Defenders)

Overview: A less common figure in world mythology is the concept of the underworld guardian. One underworld guardian which has achieved incredible fame is, of course, Cerberus, loyal "hound" of Hades, and his now constant companion in the strange new world he finds himself in.

History: Cerberus is a hyaenodontid creodont hailing from the Tertiary period. Technically, Cerberus is not one individual, but three conjoined twins who have miraculously been able to survive. Each head (the left one is Aimatiros, the middle one is Kyriarcho, the third one is Periergos), as a result, has a separate personality (unlike King Ghidorah and Orochi, whose heads are each merely an element of a collective personality), but all three are Defenders. Infernocanis graecus would have stalked a variety of Kaiju prey in Tertiary Greece, but Cerberus was ultimately the only one of their kind to survive the mass die-off of their prey, ultimately retreating into the Hollow Earth. There they were active, hunting and killing the various creatures that inhabited the Hollow Earth at the time.
In the days of Mycenaean Greece, Hades was eager to establish himself in the Hollow Earth. Quickly establishing his power to other creatures, Hades was able to sway most of the Hollow Earth's creatures to his side by force. However, Cerberus bowed to Hades almost immediately, quickly bonding with him and becoming his friend. Cerberus would eventually become the "guardian" of the Hollow Earth's entrances, as Hades had grown suspicious and worried about Zeus and Poseidon and so had Cerberus positioned at the entrances to inform him of if they arrived. Following their master to Typhon and Godzilla’s side in the war of the gods, Cerberus would then follow him into the Hollow Earth after the death of Persephone and when the war was close to being won.
When MONARCH investigated the Cape Tainaron Hollow Earth entrance in 1955, we discovered that Cerberus was having far more interaction with the outside world than their master. As it turned out, Cerberus had been raiding local villages for their livestock, and so MONARCH was forced to purchase large amounts of meat for Cerberus to feed on so that they wouldn’t cause any more problems. Due to this, they developed a bond with the MONARCH scientists at the Cape Tainaron Outpost, but still made frequent attempts to escape.
When Hades emerged from the Hollow Earth to become a Defender, Cerberus followed suite (and was also a motivating factor for Hades' decision to become a Defender), and fights alongside their master against various malevolent Kaiju across the world. Currently, they and Hades are dealing with Tiamat with Turkey.

Powers, abilities and weaknesses: Cerberus doesn't really measure up well to other Kaiju, but they are still a reasonably capable fighter. Despite his warped biology (resulting from his nature as three individuals fused into one), they are surprisingly fast and agile, and their extra amounts of claws and teeth can be used to tear into opponents. Aimatiros in particular is fond of shredding enemies with his fangs. Cerberus also wields a deadly venom in his fangs. Small doses can leave enemies unconscious; a large dose can kill. Kyriarcho and Periergos prefer to use this ability sparingly as they don't usually want to kill opponents, though Aimatiros is significantly more trigger happy and often has to be reined in by the other two. Combining these already deadly methods with superb stealth, and Cerberus is a competent trifecta of power.
Unfortunately for Cerberus, his smaller size, relative weakness, lower intelligence and lack of a ranged attack makes almost every solo fight he ends up in end badly for him. Due to this, he's either sent to deal with Minor Kaiju or weaker Major Kaiju (such as Dogoras or Yakob) or to act as support to another, more powerful Defender or Guardian (usually Hades, obviously).

Personalities: Aimatiros is the most aggressive head of Cerberus, and will often move the parts of the body he controls to rush headlong into battle. Some MONARCH agents believe he enjoys combat, and Kyriarcho and Periergos frequently need to keep Aimatiros under control. Kyriarcho is the dominant head and the most loyal to Hades. He organises the others so that Cerberus is able to fight as one being, and his level of control over the other two and their body is impressive. Periergos is the most intelligent of the Cerberus heads, but even he isn't too intelligent by Kaiju standards. Always eager to learn more, Periergos is often distracted by his curiosity, as he is known to intensely study everything around him, but when the going gets tough or if lives are threatened he will immediately snap to attention.

Relationships: Cerberus' closest ally is Cerberus, and is the one being Hades truly opens up to and doesn't discuss the dark, depressing, disturbing subjects he usually converses with other Kaiju with. However, Cerberus is a lot more outgoing than their master, and he often serves as Hades' "ambassador" to the other benevolent Kaiju. They are also close friends with Anguirus, as they both quickly bonded about their loyalty (and how all of them have never actually won a fight without help).
Cerberus has no personal attachment to their enemies. Kyriarcho and Periergos treat each new foe as a challenge, whereas Aimatiros just enjoys the combat he engages in with his opponent.
Humanity likes Cerberus mostly, but, like Baragon, they are prone to hunting livestock to feed. Though most accept the loss of some animals in order for their cities and countries to be saved, some (such as some overly zealous GDF members) think Cerberus may be possible to kill and so have attempted to persuade everyone else to assist in slaying him due to the dent he makes in farmers' incomes. Of course, nobody has actually been stupid enough to do this yet as it would probably result in Hades returning to the Hollow Earth at best and going on a vengeful rampage against humanity at worst.

Main Character Inspiration: Cerberus, guardian of the Underworld from Greek Mythology
Appearance inspirations: Hyaenodon, vertebrae and my own imagination

Godzilla, Dogora, Anguirus, Baragon and Destoroyah belong to Toho
Good old Cerberus. I decided to make him Hades' companion as I didn't want to get rid of all of Hades' allies.
