Behold- the mighty Bunyip!
and I were having a conversation on AIM about mammals I could turn into kaiju for my arena roster, and when he said something along the lines of "all the good mammals are taken", the image of a duck-billed platypus instantly popped into my head.
Originally it was going to be an Ausie chimera, part platypus, part spiny echidna, part kangaroo. I nixed the kangaroo part but kept the echidna spines, and just for kicks, called it the Bunyip.
I'll just go ahead and say that the beaver-tail wasn't done on purpose. I had gotten all excited about the idea and started drawing right away without getting much reference material, and it wasn't until later that I noticed that platypii don't really have bare tails like stereotypical ones you see in cartoons. >.>
