Saw this went live on Facebook today, so here's the complete version.As many of you know, CITY OF HEROES will be closing its doors shortly. I put this image together fairly quickly, but I hope it will serve to honor the game, Paragon Studios, and the entire CoH community. We definitely had something special here, and I'm sorry to see it go.
The character isn't anyone in particular, but she's meant to evoke several things at once:
--Statesman, the key signature hero and 'face' of CoH, who wears a large white star on his chest
--the blue and white Hero icon
--Paragon Studios itself
Does it "mean" anything? I'll let you be the judge.

I will never, never not miss City of Heroes. No game has ever come close in terms of customisation, immersion, community, setting, story or sheer scope, especially within the MMO or superhero genres. It deserved so much better than what it got; the fans deserved so much better than what they got! Paragon frickin' Studios deserved so much better than what they got after creating one of the greatest games ever to grace our computers-!
And to think the rights almost got free from NCSoft's clutches, only for them to say no to use Statesman and Ghost Widow in a crappy MOBA that didn't even last a year. It's disgusting and disheartening.

CoH was the first MMORPG I ever played, and it was a lot of fun... there hasn't been one like it since. It will be missed, big time!
I created a few characters there that I really liked, but have no idea what to do with now that it's going.
Your designs that were in game were great, it's what first got me to notice your work.
This particular image, in my mind, shows hope, new opportunities, rebirth. It invokes myths of the phoenix... in it's final moments, the phoenix dies in a fiery blaze, only to be reborn from it's own ashes. In this case, though, the phoenix isn't waiting for the blaze to finish, it is being reborn right out of the flames! City of Heroes may be going, but the spirit, the characters, the fans, all live on.

Loved COH/COV it was indeed one of my favorite MMORPG's, still miss it to this day

This is why I don't game as much anymore ..you put many many hours into developing a character and then the game closes down and you have nothing to show for the countless hours you put into it.
That's why I color more and game less now - each line art image is like a boss fight, only now after the fighting of working to paint an image I have (hopefully) a nice piece of art to show for the time I put into it.
I do kind of miss gaming, but I've had far too many hours of work put into leveling and developing characters deleted and nothing to show for it. Art is much more fulfilling and worth while to me now.

Symbolic, in my opinion, of the refusal of the community that made up Paragon City to succumb to the fires of oblivion and the "Coming Storm" which, if you will permit an analogy, turned out to be NCSoft itself.

This picture is quite brilliant. It reminds me of all the good things in City of Heroes, all the fun I had with my fellow Rp'ers, all the wacky concepts we used, the interactions and the lore debates. Oh goddess did we have a lot of lore debates! Granted I mostly just commented on what the rest said because I didn't know all that much compared to the others who lived and breathed it. I can only imagine what they must be feeling right now, but I imagine they are far more depressed about this abrupt end than I am. Alas all good things must someday come to an end I suppose. At least we have pretty pictures to look at alongside the memories.

Would be interested to read a post-mortem journal from someone deep in the RP community, to hear how they dealt with an end of the world scenario.

Unfortunately, the RP groups I'm involved with basically ignored it.
The abruptness of NCsoft's announcement and layoffs meant that there was no in-game reason for the en of he game.
I would be significantly less pissed off about it if NCsoft had given the Paragon Stuios team time to develop some end of the world content.
I would have been just as sad, but ignificantly less angry if my characters got to go out with a bang, rather than just flip the off switch.

Who knows? I doubt that's what they intended to do of course, since CoH doesn't really cater to their majority demographic. But a girl can dream no?
