Wow this is a rather late response, I'm sorry, I don't frequent dA as often as I should anymore.. when I drew these hands, I used a method I saw on youtube, you can find the video under the title How to Draw: Foreshortening with the Coil Technique.
It's a wonderful reference and can be used for just about anything, I happened to use it for Zacharie's fingers in this picture.
