Description A favorite scene from LotR:

"Here is Nimrodel!" said Legolas. "Of this stream the Silvan Elves made many songs long ago, and still we sing them in the North, remembering the rainbow on its falls, and the golden flowers that floated in its foam. All is dark now and the Bridge of Nimrodel is broken down. I will bathe my feet, for it is said that the water is healing to the weary." He went forward and climbed down the deep-cloven bank and stepped into the stream. "Follow me!" he cried. "The water is not deep. Let us wade across!"

For reasons beyond my understanding, this is also one of my favourite scenes. It made Legolas one of my favourite characters as well.

Tolkien remarked that Legolas was the most light-hearted of the company, and I think that this scene from the book shows much of his character. Glad that you also like this scene!

I love how . . . silvery this whole piece looks. It's a really pretty depiction of the scene

Thank you very much! I had the silvery mallorn and the beauty of Lothlorien in mind when I was painting. I am glad that I could capture a small part of it.

Dear old friends! That was my first reaction upon seeing this picture - I felt like I was recognizing a group of old friends I had not seen in a while. Which (in my mind, anyway) means you did a great job.

I am very humbled by your reaction. The members of the fellowship are dear old friends to me, too. Thank you and I hope that I will have the time to paint more of them.

This really made me want to re-read LotR. Sometimes I forget how different Legolas is in the books. I like his pose here

I agree, Legolas has so much more emotion in the books. I'm glad that you like the piece! Re-reading LotR is always a treat!

Thank you for making this and posting it!

This has got to be my second favorite scene with Legolas (my 1st fav. being his quip about going to "fetch the sun" on Caradhras). His character is so strikingly different in the books than in the movies the this scene is one that really illustrates that difference in my eyes. In the movies he comes off as kinda bland and two dimensional, but in this scene we see how young and child-like he is. He kinda reminds me a bit of a "fan-boy".

"OMGZ! Guys, its that famous river I've only ever heard about in songs! Can we stop for a bit? I gotta stop for a bit! I wanna wash my feet in the famous river!"

So cute! ><

Thank you very much for your kind comments! I'm glad to hear that you, too, like this scene! Although I think that Mr. Bloom is very handsome, I will always prefer the Legolas that exists in the books -- he is much more fun to illustrate, in part because he is so much more rounded.

In fact, I'm hoping to illustrate some scenes from Caradhras when I get the time. So you are in luck!

Best wishes!

Delayed response is delayed (by like a year).

But if you're gonna illustrate some from scenes from Caradhras, may I request the joke about "going to fetch the sun"? It is by far my favorite scene from all three books.
