Description This particular statue does have a great view. Standing still for hundreds of years can be boring, but this must make up for it.
The Swedish will never be able to defeat nature. It will just strike back at them.

Beautiful view and good composition... you can follow the statues gaze into the landscape. Experienced photographer (photoshopper ) that I am I see room for improvement in the post-processing: contrast (curves) especially to bring out the sky, a bit of sharpening/unsharp mask... I came across some tutorials about B&W conversion:

But that is pretty advanced stuff, I have yet to try it out myself... The possibilities of post-processing might be a bit too much for now. But I think the in-camera aspect is well-done, you did everything right when pressing the shutter :]

Yes, the camera is focused on the statue, making the background slightly unsharp. But it doesn't really bother me, as the idea of the picture is also focused on the statue. I think this is the weakest picture among the ones I submitted. I know it could be edited, but I still have some dislike for what seems to me like cheating. Photography should be about making photos, not about endlessly editing them. I'll check out those links, though.

I used to feel the same about post-processing, until I realized how much "cheating" went into pictures in the days of the darkroom. Nowadays my philosophy is to make my photos look the best they can look.

It's bad style to pretty up a badly-taken photo. But check out the most popular photography on dA, they all have been tweaked, added contrast and such. There's processing involved in transforming the raw data from the camera's sensor into a jpg - and the best photographers swear by shooting in RAW format and doing all the developing manually on the computer, rather than relying on the in-camera software!
Check out this journal resp. this article about RAW.

I see your point. However, I feel I'm still more of a writer than a photographer. I do not think I can put much energy in technique in both disciplines. As you probably noticed, I've been writing some stuff again, and I'm enjoying it a great deal. It's one of those things that comes almost natural to me. Photography, most of all the technical part, is much more of an effort and doesn't feel as "right" to me. I think it's for you perhaps the other way around.

Lol, actually lately I feel that words come to me easier than images... But then that impression might have been caused by my delving deeper into photography and seeing how much could be achieved if only I took my art more serious.

Yea, I know that you're mainly a writer, and it's a question of priorities that it makes more sense for you to improve your writing rather than your post-processing ;]

Next to that statue was actually the royal summer palace. But that wasn't as interesting as the view
