First a trophy in For, and now an Assist Trophy in Ultimate. A good sign of progression for indie representation.

Congratulations Shovel Knight and Yacht Club Games! I personally think being an Assist Trophy is the perfect role for him in Smash Bros. It's infuriating that a lot of people think Shovel Knight being an Assist Trophy instead of a Fighter is an insult or something. What would be a bigger insult is not having him in the game at all. People should be grateful.

Tell that to someone like Waluigi who's been an Assist Trophy since Brawl. If being an Assist Trophy is just a small step, then Waluigi should've been playable in Smash 4.

Honestly, this position for Shovel Knights feels like the best way to add two new things to Smash; American characters and Indie Characters.
Rather than rushing in and adding one as a playable character, introduce them into a smaller role. Then, in a later title (if there is one), perhaps he may become playable.
And honestly, Shovel Knight’s probably the best Indie Representative they could have put in, given his popularity not just in America, but also his previous connections to Nintendo (Amiibo especially)
