This was one of my three final projects for drawing class. This was also my Christmas gift to my boyfriend who is completely wonderful and amazing. He is the highlander themed white lion and I am the Middle-Eastern henna themed gray wolf. Those animals fit us. The feathers hanging from the trees represents friendly territory and us overcoming the racist backgrounds from our families (my extended family more so). My boyfriend is black (African, Indian, and Native American) and I am white (German, Scottish, Mohawk) yet we get along wonderfully.
This song fits our relationship. When we met 6 years ago I remained uninterested of him. But that changed slowly and wonderfully over the past years.

About 23 hours. Prisma colored pencils and ink on 18" x 24" charcoal paper (because I was stupid and didn't get bristol or illustration board). Sorry about the awful photograph quality. I spent fifteen minutes in CameraRaw and Photoshop trying to fix this. Much more color and detail in real life. One of my finest works so far.

Inspired? Not quite. I observed her coloring techniques but my reasoning for the background and use of animals were entirely different. I can see how you might say I was inspired by her work. I only noted the way she colors her pictures, not her characters, personal style, or theme. The artist's comment explains the reason I did this piece with the chosen animals.

I love how you left so much white. So many colored pencil drawings are overworked oversaturated with pigment--I like the simplicity and skill evident here.

Wow, thank you! I used a lot of photograph references and found that there IS a lot of white...lol...
also, I needed a simpler background because of my time constraint. A spring, summer, or autumn forest would have taken WAY too long since this was also a final project.

I expected the weapons to be the other way around, with the lion using the spear and the wolf the bow.

Don't worry, I got a plan drawn out for the tutorial. I'm going to post it in sections rather than all at once.
Yeah...I'm not 100% sure why I chose the weapons I did for these two. I just thought the lion would look cool with the bow.
