I'm the same way I can't compete with a lot of digital artists but I can claim an ok spot with my traditional monsters like the one on my icon. So far I'm best known for my hand drawings.

If I was given the right program (Not to mention a computer that didn't crash every hour) and told what or what I should draw, then I could be pretty good I bet. . . I don't draw as much as I want to, but I blame my slow imagination for that. So I normally look at other art for inspiration, which makes me feel like cheating, so I never really draw what other people have drawn. *Sigh* My mind is too complicated for even me to understand. . .

Gimp is a very helpful software. It's what I use to add the gentle shading but it can do so much more. I draw the lines with "paint" and that's built in with the PC. Β Like you said about using other art for inspiration I don't see as cheating as long as you give credit if needed. Β I tend to observe other creations myself to see how things are made. Β I'm still messing around with water animation.

"cheating" It may not be. . . But my OCD says otherwise. . . I like and then despise having to have things perfectly straight, when I was a kid it was so bad I didn't step on the cracks in between tiles. So, if that gives you a better perspective of WHY it bothers me, than there you go.
