These birds have beautiful natural colourations, are they an actual species?

First of all I love the colour scheme with the yellow mixing and blending with the brown, an area that you blended very well, and with attention drawing blue and green feathers that stand out and add some lovely colour to the birds. You also have done a good job of posture with each bird facing a different direction adding more variation to the drawing, and with the alert expressions the bird's posture and behaviour is believable. You did a good with textures making the feathers look fuzzy.

For improvement I think some of the colours could become more vibrant to make them more eye catching, especially the green feathers. Some vibrant and darker streaks would help add more depth, you already have some well placed shading but I think it would look nicer if it were enhanced a little and made a bit darker in places such as the black along the edges of the wings. I also think some dark brown could be added to sections of the head and back to add more depth and realism to the drawing, such as underneath the head where it curves over the chest and body. I hope that makes sense.

Some pale green or blue  in the background might look nice just fill in the white space, or maybe just some colour radiating around the birds until it fades into white? Hope any of this might be of some use, great work with the colouring and posture, keep up the nice work!

Thank you very much for this comment, it help me a lot
This birs are bee eaters.

Thank you for the tips with the shading, you are absolutely right! And also for the background. I have not made a background, because i was afraid to do something wrong

Thank you for all tips and tops

I'm like with backgrounds too, it's so easy to screw up a lovely piece when placing a background. Although sometimes if I can't be bothered with a full background I consider adding patterns, pale shading, or an 'aura' of colour around the focus of my drawing that fades into the white, I also sometimes add random objects such as floating orbs of light or magic haha. xD

No problem at all, I'm happy that my comment was of some help.

I really like the colors of the feathers and the way they are blended together. Those detailed feathers on the wings are also very nice. You did a pretty nice job with contrast. The birds aren't too pale. Also the branch and the leaves are a little bit less detailed which is very good because it makes the viewer focus on the birds.
I don't exactly like the white background. I don't mean it is always bad, but I think this piece would look better with some color. If you drew it on a light green paper or made a light and soft color with colored pencil it would be perfect.

Hi Nynke,

This is a really pretty drawing.
The color scheme is very well chosen. It is very vibrant and eye catching. It  unifies and harmonizes your entire composition.

The textures and details in the birds are extremely well done especially the feathers and eyes. Very realistic looking.

I don't draw birds so I'm hesitant to comment on the actual anatomy of the birds. But they look very good to me.
You have used  very nice leads  into the picture with the branch on both sides. It draws the viewer right  to your central subjects and holds the viewer's attention with the bright colors and brilliantly done  eyes. The birds seem to be looking directly at the viewer, which also holds the attention of the viewer.  Great work on the shading with these colored pencils

I love the textures, details and shading in the leaves and flowers. Very very nice work on those.
The only thing I would  suggest is to  add a just a  few more of the leaves on the left side on the branch. The right side of the drawing  is  slightly heavier than the left side. Just a minor composition evaluation..

Out side of that one little minor  thing. I feel you have done  extremely good work on this drawing and have used your medium  to very good advantage.  Beautifully done drawing.!

Thank you so much for this beautiful comment Pat, it is so nice of you
You are right with the leaves. I make this from a photo and the left side had not so many leaves as the right side.
I will thank you so much for this detailed comment, that help me a lot!!!!!!

Your very welcome Nynke,

I hope you know that I was not saying that you did the leaves wrong.  As long as the anatomy of your objects are correct and in proportion to each other , the way you place your objects in a drawing is the artist's choice.

Composition, with mass and weight  is just an element used to try and capture your viewers attention and to hold it in the drawing and to try and make the viewer see your drawing as a whole objects in itself. rather than individual objects in it.

Nature and real life  are not balanced or perfect, so we can use artistic license and elements to just make it more appealing to the viewer.  The same way with color or any other basic rules they say we are suppose to use in art.  All of my drawings have composition problems lol.

I use photos a lot in my drawings and I'm just now learning how to re-arrange things and make them feel and look more balanced.

Yes i know Pat, it was not my meaning to discuss about the leaves
And your comment is always very welcome!!! If you want you can discuss about the drawing, it is your opinion! I like what everyone say, because it help help me so much to make my next drawing better.
I like to draw what the nature gives, but you was right
But it is amazing that you can draw something on your own way!

Can you post the next time a drawing with the Original photo? As you want, it is nice to see how someone change the drawing to his own idea.

I haven't been able to get anything to come out decent looking with changing from the original photos yet. lol.

I've always done my drawings the same way as they look in the photos with just very small changes. It's been so hard trying to get away from doing that.

I'm not as creative in that respect as I would like to be.

Really nice artwork!
Just one thing: maybe you could add a few more shadows for a bit more depth and roundness. But everything else is really pretty
