The Wasp Gun can be seen as a direct upgrade to the Bee Gun. It has a chance to drop from Plantera but by the time you get it, it is woefully very underpowered. It is considered a magic weapon since it uses mana, however the design is more like that of a ranged weapon (I'm guessing they weren't about to make bees or wasps an ammunition type so magic will have to do).

I find that the most interesting ammunitions for ranged weapons can be found in the pumpkin moon event.
