Description "Earthen Hawk-Gryphon" Three Feather Fan ~ October 11th, 2005

This fan was completed for a recent convention, and sold there in the art show.

This fan had some pretty massive feathers and was likely around 24 inches long, from tip to tip. The feathers are three naturally gorgeous wing feathers from a peacock with a sort of earthy red/orange with some gentle brown dappling to them. The handle was handcrafted by my fiance from golden oak. The fur is from a particularly golden/auburn coyote, and the fan has been wrapped with earthy brown deerhide that has been woven and braided in parts. The painting itself is around 4 inches wide and high, and the knotwork was freehand.

There are four deerhide dangles (or ten if you count the braided ones as well). There are also two additional fully beaded dangles. The beading includes glass beads as well as frosted glass beads, copper beads, gold etched beads, amber beads, semi-precious green and brown jasper and moss agate, as well as antiqued bone, and brass cones. There are also two smaller wing feathers from a hybrid pheasant that tip two of the handle's dangles.

There is also a clear inlaid Swarovski crystal in the gryphon's hand.

Apologies for the slightly out-of-focus photos: they were taken shortly before I had to rush the fan off to the art show.

Enjoy!
