For the contests at #nintendo-fc and #Baten-Kaitos-Club .This is Sagi and Guillo from Nintendo's Baten Kaitos: Origins.
It's probably one of my favorite games. It's got character, story, unique artwork, unique battle system, gorgeous music, themes, and THANK GOD it doesn't have a main character that hauls around a giant sword that would be impossible for Polyphemus to carry. :0
In the game when you first go to Hassaleh, you must travel through the eerie Nusakan Thornwoods. Upon entering, Guillo becomes ill saying she hates the place.
When you reach the end of the woods, you find a big hole in the ground, and Sagi reveals that this is where he found her when he was just a child. (That's what my illustration depicts!)
Guillo's life before Sagi dug her up is a mystery. That is, until later in the game...
It's a really underplayed game. I suggest playing the duology. The first one is: Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, and the second one is Baten Kaitos: Origins.
You can probably pick them up for cheap because they were for the Gamecube.

Hee-hee! SagixGuillo for the win! Next to Gibari X Ladekahn, they're my favorite pairing... except for Geldoblame and Verus, but Sagi and Guillo are tied for second with them... Great color and shading, by the way. I love how Guillo looks really old and dusty in this picture!

Well, everybody pairs people from the game who show no sign of romance between them, too, and I dislike that, but since there is a bit of suggested romance between Guillo and Sagi in the game, I like to think of them that way. But there is also a lot of Sagi and Milliarde pairings out there. So a lot of people either pick one pairing or the other. Whether they are just friends or a couple will always be open ended, but either way, I like the two of them as traveling partners!

I have no idea what game this is, but that doesn't matter. Something about how you made this immediately drew me into it. It's really not often that this kind of thing happens to me. There's something so narrative about the drawing, it's gorgeous.

This truly is a nice piece of artwork. Makes me want to play Baten Kaitos Origins again, but my second disc is totalled, so I can only play the first disc which totally freakin' sucks. And trust me, find BKO or even BK is hard these days. Well, in Canada it is. Thank god my Baten Kaitos is still good, otherwise I'd go nuts by not being able to play any of the Baten Kaitos games. -_-

It totally does. Baten Kaitos Origins can go up to $60 on ebay. -_- My friend put up a wanted ad for me because he's just so nice, so hopefully that works for me. If not, I'll probably have to resort to amazon, because sometimes they're cheaper than ebay. And if they don't have any, I'll freakin' buy the $60 one just to get the second disc.

Just out of curiosity, how did you achieve the sparkling effect in the picture? Did you just individually place each dot?

It makes me sad to think that Guillo, as a puppet, would never be able to be loved by Sagi. They have their own special relationship, but I feel like Guillo treated him like a child for his sake, not for hers.
Love this piece. Sagi would have been such a sweet boy. Imagine waking up to that cute little face! o.o

This is the freaking bomb. I love you. The background is deliciously weird. And I love the sparkly sand bits.

I love this game. You are right Baten Kaitos is a underplayed game.But it only makes it more awesome for us people who actually play and enjoy it a whole lot more because its not something everyone knows about. Awesome work by the way.

Guillo has both voices, and in any case, the appearance of breasts as well as a feminine way of carrying herself, so I always refer to her as female, despite that fact that in reality she is a sexless puppet.

I'd rather not spoil it for you what she is EXACTLY, i.e. the purpose of her creation, however it's not a spoiler to say she is an animated life-form made out of elastic metal, because she's as hard as steel, yet incredibly flexible because she can stretch and deflate. Apparently she's hollow on the inside. If you look behind her she has a large, empty opening in her back. At one point early in the game Sagi remarks that one of Gena's children hid inside her back when they played hide and seek. lol.

How did you do the lineart? That's the part the really grabbed me about this pic. it's so sketchy yet crisp and neat at the same time.

I just sketched the lineart, but then as I was fooling around in photoshop I figured out a way to make it look a bit smoother. I used the "sponge" tool. that's also where the texture is coming from. Hehe.

I never could get the grasp of the battle system, but whenever I eventually do, I'll be able to understand the story behind this a lot better. From what little I've played, the games are beautiful. But I haven't seen them in all their glory yet. x3
