Upon finding unity, the three pony tribes were blessed with two gifts, the daughters of both the Sun and Moon. The eldest, who held dominion over the Day, descended from the Heavens first, within the dawn of the Summer Solstice. The youngest, who heralded the Night, arrived within the full moon of the Winter Solstice. Together, they would reign over Equestria, preserving harmony over the land.

In my recent poll, I asked you guys how you'd prefer my coverage of Equestrian lore, either in written sections, or through illustrations, and most of you wanted the latter, so here we go! The first installment of ancient Equestrian lore will cover the origins of our favorite princesses, Celestia and Luna.

In Harmonyverse canon, Celestia and Luna were offered to ponykind by the First Celestial Beings who created Equestria (more on them later) as blessings after the three pony tribes, Pegasi, Unicorn, and Earth ponies, finally found harmony with one another. Before their arrival, all three tribes would have the task of raising both the sun and moon alone. When a young filly with both the wings of a pegasi and a unicorn horn appeared suddenly from a beam of sunlight on the Summer Solstice, ponies were baffled by this seemingly divine occurrence. The three chiefs of the pony tribes, Commander Hurricane Flash of the Pegasi, Chancellor Pudding Top of the Earth Ponies, and Princess Platinum Radiance of the Unicorns, took the child under their care and called her Celestia, daughter of the Heavens. The great wizard Starswirl the Bearded deciphered the meaning of this sudden gift, and declared that the young alicorn, unseen before in Equestria, be raised as a princess. Soon after, Luna's arrival followed, materializing in a similar way as Celestia, through the last moon beam of the Winter Solstice. The young princesses were raised by the three tribe leaders, learning from them and training to become the future leaders of Equestria.

And there you have it! I've had this idea for a long time now, and I'm so excited to finally be delving into ancient Equestrian lore that will help you understand the future events of Harmonyverse better. There's plenty of stuff to cover, from the First Celestial Beings, to the three tribe leaders, as well as Celestia and Luna's upbringing under their care. Also, man, it's been a while since I drew a real background! Either way, this was heavily referenced by screenshots from the show. Hopefully I can get more used to it instead of just drawing my basic backgrounds, hehe.
