Description
Every previous Fire Lord before her had one and her brother will have one, so I decided to draw a portrait for the almost-crowned Fire Lord Azula.
One thing that will be noticed is that Azula's face is not drawn in the style of the previous Fire Lords. This was done because all the other Fire Lords were male and that style had not been done with a woman; every time I tried, I failed or it looked really weird; so I decided to make her face the way I did.
What I'm most proud of in this image is that everything is symbolic, even down to the colors I used. First and foremost, I decided to reprise Sozin's Comet; she would've been crowned Fire Lord on the day of its return under its light, how could I not use it in her portrait? Next, there are twin blue fireballs above her hands and near her feet symbolizing her unique and prodigious Firebending ability. Like the other portraits of other Fire Lords, there is a solar symbol behind her head to show hers and the Fire Nation's connection to the sun. Behind her is a large set of concentric circles with blue flames around its edges; the concentric circles represent the many layers to Azula's character and personality. Down near her feet are symbols for the Earth Kingdom with the symbol of the Fire Nation stylized into fireballs burning above them, showing her conquest of Ba Sing Se. Hell, even the smirk on her face shows that she knows she's powerful in more ways than one and seems to say "Eat your heart out, Zuzu."
