Description Well, finally I'm uploading a drawing I had to do for school. ='3

For our illustration class, we were handed a bunch of real insects (though they were dead) and told that we should sketch them and look closely at how everything looks and stuff. I went for this cool grasshopper (which sadly only has two of its legs left after people in other classes weren't careful enough with it ).

Then we had to transform it into a mechanical version, yet keep one part organic. Last step, we had to draw it on a big piece of paper and either colour it with coloured pencils or normal ones. As you can see, I went for colour (wheeee!) and left the head organic.

This was quite fun to do, and a bit of a challenge since I've never really drawn anything mechanical before. I think it came out pretty nice. =3
Had to take a picture of it though and then adjust the colours in Photoshop (dark edges cause of the photo), cause the page was too big to fit on a scanner (though the actual drawing area is only A4 sized).

Hope you like it!

It's one thing to do something like this on the computer, but to draw it by hand--even with touchups--is impressive. Hats off to you, Eenuh! Love this!

I think this is rather well-done. We're doing the same type of thing in my art class, but with insects we see on planet earth and what not. In my opinion, they're rather misunderstood. They can actually be quite useful...

For some reason this makes a menacing siege engine in my head O_o Jumping over city walls and unleashing hell!

I think it's great. With all the tubings and joints

Man, that would be a scary thing to see jumping around! Imagine that thing being as tall as a building. D:

But yay, glad you like it! All those tubes and joints and whatnot weren't easy to do when you know as much about mechanical stuff as me (nada!). XD

Very nicely done, the shadows so much so that is could almost be standing up 3D off the page!

Wow, traditional media from you!!!

Merci trouwens!

I like how the shadows are coloured. Its looks really good! Id normally just use boring black shadows!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Eenuh In reply to Thystian [2007-05-15 22:42:41 +0000 UTC]

Yuy, thanks for the compliment!
And no black was used on this at all, except for maybe the center of the eye. =O

But yeah, black sounds like the logical colour for shadows, but you can create a much more interesting drawing if you go for colours like dark blue and brown (or even purple). =3
