Description Another LoK-OC, because I need to draw to get my head free. Don't judge me!

I tried something very diffrent with the lighting this time and played with layer-modes. It was a lot of fun and I really like the result, he's one creepy guy! I'm not too happy with the fire though, it looks very water-y but maybe that's just his style to do it?

He's another addition to my wide pool of OCs. Because I don't have enough already - NOT. XD And he's a figure from the underground as well (of course, no good people in Elby's world!).

About him:

Reed (that's how he calls himself) is a freelancing assassin in Republic City. His identity is unknown and he can only be contacted through a few selected middlemen but even these individuals don't know his name or face. There's not much information about him except the fact that he's male, of average height and an exceptional firebender. His trademark bending-style is bending his fire to an extremely high-temperature whip that can cut straight through flesh and bones. He tries to keep the emitted light as low as possible, seclusion is part of his job and he doesn't need a bright light telling his victims his location, but it's still quiet conspicuous, hence he uses his bending only in the last moment, for the kill. Until then he's practically invisible (the eyes of his mask are not as shiny as in the picture, I only did that because I thought it looked cool) XD
Characteristic about him is that when he kills his victims their head is reduced to nothing but a burnt puddle of flesh and bone that resembles minced meat, earning himself the nickname "The Mincer" in the media (for his clients he's "Reed" though). He achieves that trademark-kill by quick slashes with his bending and does it to ensure that he doesn't leave the job undone and from a weird sense of mercy: to save his victims from the shame of others seeing their pained expression in death. Some people say he's the 2nd coming of Koh the face-stealer but that's just an urban myth.
He always works alone and wears a mask with an included nightvision-technology (similar to the chi-blocker googles). His close-combat-skills are excellent and he is on par with chi-blockers, he can't block chi himself though.
He can't bend lightning or redirect it.

Probably my most overpowered character ever (besides Haroma) but I kinda like him. Not sure what's behind that mask...
What do you think about the character? I want honest opinions please, I'm not too sure if I overdid it with the special-abilities :/

He's neither enemy nor friend of my other OCs but Kuzai is one of his contact-men.

Thanks
Hmm that sounds interesting but I'm not too sure if he would work as a roleplay-character. He's not a person to talk much and comes and goes as he wishes. I'd say he's a mysterious supporting character, allowing him to drop in and out of the storyline, not a protagonist. His interaction with others is limited to his jobs and you don't want your Ringo to be assassinated, do you? XD

Of course there's still his private life but even I don't know what that should look like haha

I'll think about it ^^

I have only roleplayed once and I had the feeling that I was the only one pushing the story, the other person didn't do much and let her OC have a kind of unrealistic behaviour. I had the feeling that she was only aiming to pair her OC (who was very generic and kind of boring) with mine and it became really frustrating, that's why I'm a bit prejudiced about roleplay ^^°

Dear god. This guy gives me more of the creeps than Amon. XD Oh my god. Hahaha His ability scares me. I agree with the person above. Season 2-4 should have this guy. Now that would be a darker season. XD

Thanks! Creepyness is what I wanted to achieve

I don't think Bryke want LoK to turn into a rated M show, haha XD Thank god the fandom is free

Honestly, he makes Firelord Ozai like a kitten.

True. If they did, all hell would break loose. XD You know it would be overly popular if it was M. XD

Rewatch the finale of ATLA and say that again. Ozai is serious buisness, like a one man-army! That man attempted to kill his son, killed his father and god knows what he did to his wife. The only person truly getting along with him is Azula and that says a lot about him already XD

I think that's one of the strong points of Avatar: it is overly popular even though there's no blood at all. It's entertaining for the whole family and has great values and morals without shoving them in your face.
And LoK is very dark, the equalists are extremely creepy and bloodbending... just wow, that's a fearsome ability!

Girl-In-Disorder In reply to Elbytron [2012-08-16 19:40:15 +0000 UTC]

Dude...I should totally. It's been like three years since I rewatched the finale. XD

Dear god, Azula scared me. But she was so epic! XD

That's so true. It's like amazing how the creators can create a show filled with action, and despite not having blood, the show is still amazing. I think the morals too are very deep. Like the southern raiders. My god. Mind blowing.

Oh totally. Like the third episode when Amon took there bending, I was like "WTF how?" 4th episode, made me pee my pants for Korra. I thought he was going to beat her up.

Do it. Do it NOW.

I loved Azula. She was a great character. Epically strong, intelligent, insane, dominant and that as a girl! One of the best villains ever created
Come to think of it, what really stands out about Avatar are the strong women. A young woman of colour being the main character and totally kicking ass, where else can you find that?
I also love the diversity in this world. Even though it's all mostly asian (and inuit) you can still see so many diffrences in culture, architecture, clothing and lifestyle, it's such a rich world.

Yeah I agree. Also the way Aang defeated Ozai without killing him. He found a way to stay true to himself against all odds.
It's also wonderful how this show focuses on many generations. You have grandparents, uncles, children, everything. Think about Iroh: There were two times in the show when I just sat there and cried. One time was in Ba Sing Se when Iroh sang his song for Lu Ten. The other was when Zuko came to see him before the comet and he instantly forgave him. Iroh reminds me a lot of my grandmother.

Totally! In the 1st series you had a clear enemy and a goal but the revolution in LoK is much more underground and brewing in secret, hence you never know how they strike and what comes next. Amon is dead (I suppose) but the problem of non-benders feeling supressed is still there! They lost their messiah but they surely haven't lost their drive, there's more to come. I'm sure of it.

I SHALL! (lmao I forgot all the potential Zutara in it! ...*cries* I was/still am a zutara shipper. But I will admit Kataang as adults in that one poster are freakin adorable XD)

She was just so...god. One of the best characters ever created. Her breakdown...I felt so bad for her! D: Totally right? I love how the northern tribe are based on eskimos too, there are a lot of mixes between the earth kingdoms and fire nations. <3

Totally. Like Aang defeated him his own way unique way without feeling guilty about taking his life. It just was hands down amazing. I was scared he had to kill him. Dear god. All the Iroh scenes had too much feels. I was crying with the ba sing se, but was bawling when Zuko and Iroh made up. Oh god, I might cry re-watching it again aren't I? XD

Exactly! It's like more nerve wrecking in Lok since everything is so secretive and or has huge twists! XD I felt sad that Amon/Noatak and Tarrlok left! D:

O_O Wow thanks! Most epic comment ever!

(I don't think he would fit there though, the 2nd season will take place at the northern watertribe and will be very spirit-world oriented, if the rumers are true) ^^

Ooo, mysterious. I like him. Always been a fan of the shady assassin archetype.
I don't think he's too buffed out with powers/abilities, seems pretty fair to me, but idunno. Fire whip sounds pretty bad ass

I like the dynamic lighting in it a lot. I also am a fan of the eyes
To be honest I didn't recognize that as fire, and just thought it was to make the piece look snazzy. I think that's the first time I've ever typed snazzy in my life o_O
I also see we have a different type of background. Not sure if you made it, but I like it

And what's with the signature? It looks like it reads "dr"
But hey, true artist's signatures are never legible, amirite?

Elbytron In reply to Josiah-V [2012-08-14 17:37:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I know, the fire doesn't look very fire-y. I made the lighting before I coloured the fire and if I changed it afterwards I had to change the whole picture :/ Nyeh, something learned for next time.

"We have a diffrent type of background" - lol when have you ever drawn a background XD
Yep I made it but I abused my wire-brushes and a couple of filters for it. I was not sure if I would make a bg at all but with the default dA-grey the red would've looked less good. I know it's cheap but it's better than nothing.

That signature is my initials. I won't say what it stands for.

Don't worry dr, wasn't gonna ask.
But anywho, just noticed the background was wirey. Wire like.
And trust me I do not blame you, backgrounds can't be rushed. It's way too easy to tell when they have been
Plus I said I like this one
