Passionate: He valued swimming and music very much and disliked it when people didn’t treat one of them seriously, particularly swimming.

Hard-worker: He was persistent in his training and unwilling to give up in his new passion for swimming.

Insecurity: Because he was still new to swimming, he often felt down by his limited swimming capabilities. The insecurity increases if anyone founds out what his real fear was.

Musician: His second passion – he is very knowledgeable about music but will show his enthusiasm for rock-genre music. He is often seen listening to his headphones and will forget his surrounding when he’s “drowned” on the music unless someone pried the headphones off his ears.

Committed: He was committed in both his training and love life. In any training he does, he will stick to the training regime that he planted on himself. Yoichi never date other girls other than his sweetheart, and is very much in love with her.

“Land duck”: Because he originally can’t swim due to his fear for drowning, he would appear very panicky and sometimes produced an anxiety attack if he swims in deep water.

★History:

Originally, Yoichi is a “land duck”, meaning that he can’t swim. The reason for it was he nearly drowned at the swimming pool as a toddler and developed a trauma for deep water throughout his elementary school as a result. Whenever the class had a swimming lesson, he would pretend to be sick or cowered behind the changing room. His fear brought many sneers and embarrassment throughout his peers and family. Wanting to escape his weakness, he turned over to his biggest passion then: music. In his spare time, he would compose his music but because he’s very tone deaf, he resorted to use Vocaloid as his “voice”.

On the first year of middle school, a gym coach taught Yoichi to overcome his fear of swimming. Through his intense training, Yoichi can finally swim but he still had fear for deep waters. During this time period as well, he met his “sweetheart” for the first time. She was member of the school’s music club, a gentle and calm-mannered woman who gently supported him and accepted his fear as something only natural for humans to have.

It was not until he saw his gym coach’s old swimming videos (the coach was a former national swimming athlete in Kantou) that he began to respect swimming. He trained hard to surpass his coach, yet he knew that his abilities are still below the standard athlete level. To hone his skills, he finally enrolled to Swimming Academy, and hopefully he could reach the national level as his gm coach once did.

Before he graduated from middle school, he vowed to his gym coach that he wouldn’t be a “land duck” anymore and he would become the swimmer like he was.

- He has a “sweetheart”. He often communicates with her through text messages and serenades for her.
- He’s very articulate and proficient in poetry. Most of them are terribly sappy.
- Always wanted to own an electric guitar.
- He is a terrible singer. No human being could stand his voice.
- Yoichi once joined a garage band. It dissolved within only two weeks after the lead singer is proved to be a terrible singer with perchance for attention, leading an internal argument within the band members.
- As a hobby, Yoichi composes his own songs using Vocaloid banks. Currently, he had composed five Vocaloid songs made of Miku Hatsune, GAKUPO, VY2 and GUMI voice banks.
- He secretly trains to control his body on deep water in the middle of the night because he had to wear floaties around his arms. The floaty’s design is very childish as well, so he would be really embarrassed if someone sees him in that situation.
- His character is actually inspired by Akaba Hayato from Eyeshield 21.
