Don't say that! This is excellent! Way better coloring than I can do. And I truly suck at colors. Never could grasp it.

the big problem is: I can color something only when I have that already coloured something as a reference, like this portrait. If I try to colour an oc or some other thing I don't use reference for I'm totally uncapable. I mean, I tried to colour Kael or Unda so many times, but I make only mess! So I'm planning to do more portrait like this to practice with colour, or at least to have the sense of colour. It's always been my problem, I also suck in choosing suiting colours for my clothes too!
and no, I don't think you suck at colors, I assure you can color dark skin much better than me!

You're not in that boat alone, though. My grasp of colors is so infantile right now. I blame it on only getting to draw in pencil growing up. My area isn't entirely supportive so there wasn't any of me spreading a large piece of paper over the dining room table and painting or anything. Just me scribbling in the margins of my notebook paper, hoping no wandering passerby would notice and think they had to criticize me.
In college, I think I took 3 painting courses, and I just never got the hang of mixing and blending like others did. So all I can say is that, when I manage a good painting, I'm always like... wtf? where did that come from? YAY ME!
But I'm still terrible at imagining the right color of clothes that go together and such. Actually, if I have to admit it, my husband does all the choosing of paint colors for our walls in the house, because I'm that terrible at it. ^.^
Anyway, keep it up. You are doing amazing. And practice is the best way to learn.

I've never taken a painting course, I hope to be able to do it soon, because I'm really longing to understand how the hell I have to put them together, ok, I know the difference between cold and hot and things like that, but, for example, the shading: I think I know quite well how to shade a body, but if the body is coloured I can't understand what kind of grade I have to use to shade well, and so on. If I have a reference it's quite ok, but without I'm totally lost. And it's hard to make details.
Seriously, I hope one day to have someone to teach me how to do... XD
