Description Um so. What is this thing? WELL. I will tell you. In the utterly round-about way it occurred.

Mostly, I picked up the game Dark Souls! (Prepare to Die edition for the PC) And I am a huge sucker for dark, moody fantasy. I knew I wanted to paint a grungy knight in plate armor. Then while searching though fan art, I came across *DavidRapozaArt 's cool sketches of some of the knights - complete with link to video process! Anywho, I don't typically follow processes and tutorials closely - I look at them and decide what I like and what works for me - then move on.... but I actually decided to give Dave's process a whirl. I learned a lot of things.... mostly that I am no David Rapoza. But all in all, for a speed paint, I think it looks pretty cool! Not really very realistic... more painterly... but whatever.

As for the actual design.... eheheh. If you thought it kinda looks like a turian, you get a cookie. A long time ago I doodled some turian-styled plate armor in my sketchbook (shaped for a human female. Because.... you know, the body shape). This departed from it quite a bit, so I'm not really sure what's going on anymore. Oh well, practice. Moving on....

And so ends the longest description for a spontaneous speed-painting ever!

Graaaaaah I have a serious weak spot for masked armor!
Wonderful design and I love the tiny swirly decorations on the plating <3
Plus the red gives a nice break to it all.

NICE! I love the misty, umbral atmosphere in this. It's awesome to see well done darkish fantasy art instead of the usual shiney overlit knight in perfect armor with glittery ornaments and... stuff. HAH. The hips in particular and his midriff did make me think of my favorite space buggers, I must admit.

I also... don't think I want to see him on any dark alleyways. Ever.

Thanks! Dark, grungy, battle-hardened knights are the best kind. IMO.

Ahaha! Yeeaah.... I'd avoid dark knights in alleyways, too. After playing Dark Souls, you would know exactly what that specific situation felt like.

Awesome, girl! Wish I could paint like that...I'm pretty good at line art I'm having trouble with coloring over and actually finnishing the drawing...and imagination is failing too

And it is just that - practice. I need to do more of that myself! Also the thing about this painting, is that there is no line art. It's just a very loose sketch that's been built-up. Sometimes people prefer to have things laid out precisely before they start painting, but a method like this is meant to be a bit more free-form. I don't have *DavidRapozaArt 's talent, so watching him paint might be more constructive (if you are interested, that is): [link]

Yeah well, I started drawing like that,...trying to get perfection out of contours and then I actually started to paint over after that. i like it that way becase it helps a lot to give form, perspective and proportions to what you are drawing...at least for me it works better.
So true enough, practice makes perfection.

I actually did think about turians when I saw this, but I initially blamed it on the fact that I played the last two Mass Effect straight through this past week. xD

I wish I was able to offer something constructive but... wow. *_* I just love this. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for monochromatic schemes with splashes of color, or maybe cause of the awesome armor. There's also something strangely nostalgic about this, though I can't put my finger on as to why that is.
