Description Okay, so - you know that Princes in the tower image I did?
Welllll, it started me off an a whole new rampage. I have always adored Richard III and his enigma...so why not, suggested my husband, do something about it?
Why not indeed!

So - call me crazy, but I'm putting together a personal pitch for a 3 GN series on the subject, complete with test spreads...one of which is the image posted here, a spread showing the beginning and end of the Battle of Barnet in 1471.

I'm up to my eyebrows in research, but my god it's fun!
Bitten off too much? Yeah, possibly, but it's scratching an itch I didn't realise I'd been carrying for years!

That is magnificent! Why is it that so many of us are interested in historical personalities?

'another'? Which one have you read? ^_^
Or, do you mean the Shakespeare edition? That one's fantastic of course, though I'd be fascinated to know if you've come across any other versions based on historical accounts rather than the Shakespeare play!

I meant, beside my own graphic novel about Richard III, "The Boar" (see my signature).

Good for you! I wish you the best of luck X3 I don't know too much about Richard III myself, but it's historical so it should be awesome! I think the page has a good mix of dialogue and action, so it looks good to me. Hopefully the publishers will think the same!

Looking great. I'm liking the big solid blacks, your inking has gotten great. The swirls on the left hand page work really nicely too, and the angles on the right hand page get across the chaos in the battle very well.

Kickass.

I really like that first page. I'd add some darker tone to the bushes, though. Let's see, what other "professional" advice do I have... I like the last panel on page 2 a lot!

emmav In reply to tensergorn [2009-06-24 09:28:07 +0000 UTC]

haha - yay for professional advice!
Yeah - the bushes could handle some darker tone I think.
Thanks, hon!
Oh, btw, I thought I might make SDCC this year, but it's looking verrry unlikely now
I had hoped we'd be able to meet up!

Oh SDCC? I'll be there...currently without a hotel, but this doesn't seem a problem as nearly everyone I know will be there.

That was great, i remember doing this in school, was sooo boring, wish we had something like this to learn from instead of what seemed like 1000000's of pages of just writing in words that made no good sense! lol
But Richard also came across to me as a real interesting character, good luck with the pitch

emmav In reply to InspIred-Ace [2009-06-24 09:29:56 +0000 UTC]

I studied Richard in school too - but we were told about a really negative, tudor version of him. The Richard who Shakespeare showed to the world in his play. I really want to offer people an insight into the other side of him. He really is fascinating! ^_^

Ahh, I love it~! It's great to get on a kick for something, isn't it? XD I've ended up researching some very random things that way...
I really like the scripting here, and the paneling - it really captures the chaos and confusion of the battle!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

emmav In reply to Ariandir [2009-06-24 09:31:38 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow - I love that you mention the scripting in particular, thank you. I'm never as confident with my scripting as I am with the drawing, but the idea was to give a sense of chaos and confusion, so yay!
