A small whine awoke Icarus from his sleep. Shifting next to him told him it was coming from Rose. Peering over he caught the glimpse of a small tear trailing down her face followed by an unintelligible plea.
“No..no….leave me alone…”
A nightmare. Quickly he shifted position to sit next to her before gently nudging her. She jolted awoke with a gasp and nearly rammed her head into his nose.
“LEAVE ME ALONE!”
Her head whipped back and forth as more tears rolled down her cheek. Realizing she wasn’t in danger she turned to Icarus, wiping what she could of the liquid on her face. His expression creased into a frown as he struggled to come up with what to say. As he watched her desperately try to wipe the tears away, he couldn’t help but notice just how tired she looked. Did this happen often?
“...I take it this isn’t a first for you?”
She stared at him for a moment, could she trust him? He hadn’t meant any hostility before so it didn’t seem like the worst idea. Maybe sharing her problem would help her.
“Yes… near every time I fall asleep. It just keeps coming back” She shivered slightly at the memory of it. She watched him carefully to see what he would say next.
“Mm...have you tried talking to Alma, or Dr. F? It wouldn’t surprise me if either of them had encountered the problem before, and had experience in dealing with it.”
“I haven’t said anything to them. I can deal with it on my own. And I doubt Alma would have the time.”
“How can one deal with a problem they don’t know anything about? Do you even know what is causing the nightmares?”
“I don’t know much, just that it involves my…” She paused for a moment wondering if this was going to far with trust, but gave in. “my parents. How could Alma help when she doesn’t even know where they are? If they are even alive for that matter.”
“I would be lying if I said I knew how, but as I said, she may have encountered this problem before and know something. Sometimes it just takes an outsider’s perspective,” Icarus seemed to go into a daze at this last line, looking off at something that wasn’t there.
“I guess you have a point.” She said, laughing at the irony of it as she listened to his perspective. Watching him he seemed to have lost focus. She glanced behind her in case something was there but nothing. She waved a claw near his face, “Um.. Icarus you there?”
The orange wyngling blinked and refocused on her. “Apologies. I found myself looking back on my own experiences. I won’t press further if you should decide not to talk to anyone else, but I do hope that you will atleast try.”
She contemplated it for a moment, “I.. I’ll think about it.” Glancing up she watched the leaves swaying above, glimpses of the moonlight peeking through.
“I’m gonna try to sleep again, hopefully it’ll be morning soon and someone will find us.”
“I shall try to do the same, and if someone doesn’t, it’ll be easier to figure out how to climb out once it’s brighter. Good night.”
“Agreed, good night.”

“Look the trap was triggered! I told you there were monsters!” A loud voice chirped with the gasp of another following.
Two grey wynglings walked over to the hole in the ground, one wore a necklace with a tooth, the other a bracelet on his leg. The one that had dug the hole leaned over it, eyes inspecting the strange creature they had caught.
“Icarus?” Koda said as he spotted the soft furred wyngling. Myste joined him, eyes raised, “Rosedrop?!” He nearly shouted.
Of all the gros to get stuck together they were the least likely. Myste glanced at Koda who seemed disappointed his trap had failed before a small smile appeared on his face.
“Well look at the two lovebirds!” He shouted down making both shoot up in surprise.
“I was looking for a monster but this is almost better!” He laughed.
Rosedrop glared up at him, a small growl emitting from her mouth. This was the wyngling who had thought it funny to wake her up. Quickly she stood up, trying to put as much distance between her and Icarus as she could.
“So this was your terrible trap! I should have known a dunce like yourself would do this!” She scratched at the wall grasping for any footholds she could find. Icarus seemed indifferent of the two’s bickering.
“As useful as this trap is, I would like to think I’m not a beastie in need of slaying or whatever plans you had for the unfortunate creature. Would I be too bold to request being allowed free, as well as our crimson companion here?”
Myste glanced between the two. He didn’t have much liking for Rosedrop after being yelled at but she didn’t deserve something like this and Icarus seemed nice enough.
“Come on, give them a break and let ‘em out.” Myste said looking around for a vine or something to help lift them.
Koda spared a glance to Myste before backing up.
“Fine… this is getting boring anyways.” He had lost interest once Icarus had started being nice, he didn’t mind the orange gro and had only been teasing. But with no aggressive response from him he didn’t see the point in continuing.
Stepping back he reached for a long vine that he had made the day before in case something like this had happened.
As the two climbed out, both began to stretch their limbs to release the numbness that had overtaken them.
Turning to the grey wynglings Icarus said, “You have my thanks. I appreciate you letting us out, and for digging the pit.”
Raising a brow at Icarus, Rosedrop muttered her own thanks before walking off back to the nook having had enough excitement for one night.
