Oh! I use the brush tool mostly. Persistence: 66. Blending and dilution I change whether I want to blend more or not. Everything else default.
I use the watercolor tool or blur tool for extra blending on the skin. I use the pencil tool to all small details such as highlights, lines, and eyelashes. My Stabilizer is set to 5.Β
After drawing, I add an Overlay layer to color correct. I then add a luminosity & shade layer to add more values and create stronger lighting gradients. I change the Opacity of these two layers to low.

Um.. Β I really admire Sakimichan's semi-realistic style so that's who I try to reference, though I'm not very good at it obviously lol Β ><; So I guess the answer is yes? I don't really have any other way of learning except to reference other art ( either that or make stuff up) =7=;

Haha, that's the way I'm going about it too. Just veeery slowly. I gave Jin a new nose shape on the pic I just uploaded of him here, so that's a step in the right direction? XD
(I keep making changes to his lower body. I've made two possible new outfits for him in two days, and each differs only by boot design.)

.. aww I totally feel you about the constant changing. it's quite annoying when you don't know whats wrong so you just keep on changing it over and over x.x; As a last resort, I drag some one else over to look at it and tell me where the heck I should put the left arm xD. On the other hand, you need to teach me how to make up outfits! lolol I suck at it.. =7=

Thanks! Actually, that's mostly the same outfit he's had for 4 years now--it wouldn't reeeally be new unless you knew me when I drew him for the first time . (I add the "really" because the part of his outfit that changed isn't on the newest pic.) I don't know how I come up with outfits, really--I just throw things that work together; some of those things are reminiscent of outfit things I've seen elsewhere. I couldn't tell you what I was thinking when I designed Hitori's outfit if I tried XDD Speaking of Tori, I have to hit one of your freebie streams later so that I can coerce a couple pic out of you your Jin pic can have a companion!

Your welcome! Yeah.. that's how I try to create outfits too but when I look at other peoples OCs I realize how unique and detailed theirs are compared to mine! XD Lolol I haven't had much energy lately to draw as much as I used to, but whenever I do my next freebie stream you can definitely give that a shot! I wouldn't mind!

Aww, I'm sure your characters are just as detailed as anyone else's! (A good number of mine don't have much backstory to them either 
Speaking of character design, I can't decide on a hairstyle for my new red-crowned crane gijinka (right), though I was thinking of pulling a "peeking up through bangs" effect on this. He's going to be a shy shota, and his hair colors will be white with a single red stripe on the top. Got any suggestions? (Feel free to doodle all over him if you like, and I can read PSD and XCF files.)
(His outfit will probably be refined because I don't think I want to deal with quadruple-layered sleeves, and I didn't have enough room on the paper I drew him on to properly add his feet. Probably going to go with Japanese sandals or Espada boots. On the left is Jin's updated outfit and a WIP Tori for possible outfit revisions.)

Thanks again! Again, a ton of Touken Ranbu references. I still haven't a clue why Jin's first form is the most downloaded (maybe I should try and add more European touches), but I did finish a sweet new pic of him in my gallery just today that I tried semi-realist shading on. It's also the first pic to get a proper BG in ages. Sai is amazing! for shading, though I highly doubt I'll ever use it for base colors--and then, I still prefer pencil to screen/tablet sketching.
