Well, some say that he was killed by those who Elphie followed and worked with; the rebellion, so to speak. Oddly enough, you will find they will mention something about him being the Scarecrow, but any reference to that and how it 'came to be' has still baffled me. It's toward the end, I believe.

I think the only reason I paid mind to it was due to the whole 'Was Liir Elphaba's son and such.' Soo...there must have been a reason to put the whole Fiyero/Elphie scene.
