Description QUALITY - my absolute favorite of the pieces I made this year - I mean, this sculpture won me two awards! I was trying to represent the "life" trapped inside a book.

"The author writes the story and traps life within the book. The reader opens the book and life attempts escape from the pages. Life emerges, but returns to the book to eventually be revived and live again."

- - - I received a "Gold Key" for excellence from The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2012. Thank you, teacher, for suggesting I enter.
- - - I also received an "Award of Merit" at the 2012 High School Art Exhibit where I live! A picture of it is going to be in the museum here with the other winners! That's so cool!
- - - I imagine this sculpture is also what helped me to be recognized with the "Most Inspirational 3-D Art Award" for the year 2011-2012 at my high school.

a Danish book (the story it's open to is titled "Ingen Udvej"), the pages from another, glue, wire

The concentration this went into in my 3-D Art Portfolio class, was all about "Texture". - I used paper (usually newspaper, as it has become one of my favorite materials) and other paper-like materials (such as tape and fabric), as well as various methods of appliance, such as systematic overlapping, ripping, and cutting, to create different texture. The textures and my choice of material then worked together to create emphasis and rhythm in the pieces I made. - As you can see, I slowly transited from paper to more metallic surfaces, so this was indeed an exploration. I was very happy with what I turned in. This was quite possibly my favorite class in all of my high school career. - I finally got the news! I got a 4! Woot woot!

HOW IS THE BIRD FLOATING :C. AND HOW IS THE BIRD EMERGING FROM THE PAGES?
BUT DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN GIRL.

This is freaking amazing! I'd love something like this for a birthday present OnO.
But wow, this is absolutely stunning.

you haven't seen this?!?! it was at school for the longest time! i made it months ago and it's one of my best!!
but thanks!! i hope you take a look at all the art i'm finally posting!

the bird's not actually "floating". it's a sneaky camera angle that hides it's connection to the book. i'd like to say i planned it all
out just so the picture would look this good, but i didn't do measurements or anything - i was just hoping is all. :] i'll probably
put up another pic soon a -side view- and you'll see.

missing you!

I remember you designing it at lunch in pencil in your notebook, and showing it to me? I DON'T THINK I SAW IT IN PERSON THOUGH :C.

I heard you're in Denmark already...? Is that true? OnO

Was planning on going shopping to finally buy you those wire materials for you!

AND MAN, I THOUGHT MY WAND WAS STORE BOUGHT. IT'S FREAKING AMAZING.

i did do it at lunch, didn't i? no, i'm still here at the moment. stressed out beyond belief though,
trying to get everything done, packed, and my art up - so i'm ready to apply for courses. it's less than
a week left. wire materials? u don't owe me anything.. that reminds me! i have pics of the harry potter
stuff i made. that will probably be up here eventually as well. of course, i'll blur the addresses or
something.

One word: epic. This is just fantastic. I love it. To me, it tells a story of characters trapped inside a book trying to escape. Fantastic!

HOLY HELL!!! Books never looked so awesome!!icondroolfaceplz:
You deserve those awards, yo. GREAT work on this.
Kindles and e-books will never have the same inspiring qualities a book has. You can't make this with a kindle.

thanks! and i agree with you completely. there's something physical about holding a book in your hands. it's like your holding the whole story in your hands. a whole life. it's very inspiring. it makes me want to write a book. - - - and yes, that too. i'd rather make something out of a book than the tiny parts of a kindle, even though i do like working with wire.
