Haha, I saw the movies only once at the cinema - twice now, since we decided to watch them for reference (not that we actually watched them - mostly we laughed at them/Frodo being emo). I gave up on the books.
It's not that Kiwis are into LOTR as such, it's just that so many of us worked on the damn movies, and all the hands-on effects that Jackson wanted. I think practically everyone I know has had something to do with it :B
