Description Personally I am not enjoying the latest movie poster featuring Gandalf and Galadriel holding hands. And I am quite certain I am not the only one finding this absurd. Maybe I am being sensitive, but this really makes me wonder if the movie director (or someone else in the movie team) is officially shipping Gandalf and Galadriel. Hope it is not true, because I don't find it funny at all.

My sole condolence to the poor, often neglected, and now rumouredly cuckolded Lord of Lothlorien.

Sorry for the scrappy poster doodle. And I guess you already know where Celeborn's lines come from. [Yup, a parody of his own lines from Fellowship of the Ring movie...]

Fountain pen, coloured pencils, ipad sketchbook. Sums it.

**Please don't mistake me. I am looking forward to the movie. Just expressing my sentiments against the poster here**

I felt the same way when I saw it. The way I understood it Celeborn lead the attack on Dol Guildor as well! (Though I could be mistaken.)Β

Yes he did, together with Galadriel.

Well, Mr. Jackson is to blame. Still looking forward to his movie, all the same

Thanks for your feedback, I just couldn't resist drawing this out when I first saw that poster LOL

Those movies have been all "Celeborn who?" about it all.

Oh my. His face. Perfectly indignant! xD But then, who wouldn't be, if pictures of your wife with another guy had just been posted… I'll admit that I kind of ship Galadriel/Gandalf, but only in fanfiction AUs. This is indeed rather absurd.

The difference is that for AU fanfics, readers are warned and totally understand there is certain divergence from the canons in setting, storyline, pairing, etc., while Peter Jackson's movies are supposed, at least by the audience who have read the book, and there are millions of them, to remain as canonically aligned as possible; there may not be legal terms to restrict canonical divergences, but the general expectation is quite clear. And in this case, to hint about a non-canonical shipping that infringes the canonical pairing is rather risky.

Though I think this would not stand out in the movie, which has a big story to tell, and at least for Galadriel, I think her screen time will very likely be limited to minutes. I only do not understand why they are making two Gandalf&Galadriel posters out of the movie...

The characters are known and popular, and somewhat more conventionally attractive than the gross of the dwarves… Also, as the story is pointedly lacking in women, so they might be trying to milk those couple minutes of Galadriel screen time for all they're worth…

That being said, there might indeed just be a secret Gandalf/Galadriel shipper somewhere on PJ's team.Β

I agree with you though that it's really kind of absurd and sends a strange message to the many people who have read the book and are familiar with the actual story.Β

Yes, I know how you feel...sigh... Β Poor Celeborn. Β I hope it isn't the way it looks!

Well, it seems drawing things out has made me feel much better. And I don't think there will be much room for such absurdity in the movie, when theres a dragon to slay, a dark lord to drive away, a few negotiations to hold, a big battle to fight, and a homeward journey to make... Still quite puzzled at why they are making two Gandalf&Galadriel out of it, though.

And yeah, poor Celeborn guess he won't have the chance to star the last Middle-earth movie (at least for the recent years).

And the best part of this is that I heard it in Celeborn's voice.

And I love the leaf on Celeborn's phone.Β

Yeah, I have no idea what to think of that poster...

That's why I drew this. I don't what to be brooding over the poster all the time.

And yeah, the capture is on purpose. Celeborn is very likely the most irritated one of all, though I trust Galariel and Gandalf are no less furious about this.

Ah-ha, Celeborn is Silver-tree and he lives in the Golden Wood, can't resist some plant element for hos phone ^_^

I would be most terrified of... er... they're all terrifying when angry... probably Gandalf. Yes, he is the most powerful, so...

Hmm... and Feanor would have the Silmarils on his phone, and Sauron would have either the Eye or the Ring, and Celebrimbor would have the Three Rings or the Elessar on his, and Pippin would have a picture of food or Gondor, and Merry would have the flag of Rohan on his, and Finrod would have a picture of Amarie, and Gimli would have a picture of Galadriel... oh dear, what have we started?

No I absolutely don't wanna enrage any of them, ANY...

Obviously we have started somewhere, and we can just go on and on: both Bilbo and Frodo can have the lovely door of Bag End, Thorin the Arkenstone, Bard the black arrow, Aragorn, Boromir and Faramir will probably share the White Tree Banner, Cirdan a swanship, Elrond will have Celebrian.... Wait, Gimli having Galadriel on his phone? Too bad, he doesn't wanna take his phone out within the sight of Celeborn, and you know something about Elvish sight...

Yeah Feanor will absolutely have the Silmarils on his phone. Everyone probably will agree with that. In Vampiry's humour art, Feanor is having Silmarils for his tumblr avatar!

Gandalf would be the most scary, though.Β

Aegnor and Andreth will have each other on their phones, and Legolas will have a tree, and Thranduil some silver and green jewels, and Elwing a Silmaril as well, and Maglor a harp, and Fingon a bow, and Aredhel Gondolin (when she's in Nan Elmoth), and Turgon Gondolin as well, and Melian... lembas?Β

An image of Gimli awkwardly trying to hide his phone under the stern gaze of Celeborn comes to mind.

fish-in-fridge In reply to Ellosse [2014-10-16 22:20:54 +0000 UTC]

Melian can have Luthien, after the latter chose a mortal fate and was lost to her for the rest of Arda. Then it occurred to me Elrond might have a pic of Arwen to replace Celecrian headshot when he was reunited with his wife but lost his daughter forever; and that reminds me of Elros... Oh no, Elrond really has quite a list of important ones whom he will never meet again.

Oh yes... *sobsforElrond* But they will meet at the End.

I'm imagining Elrond getting a handmade phone cover of Arwen at Minas Tirith now. That'll make quite the picture...
