This one didn't photograph too gracefully, unfortunately :c The white parts are all orange-looking, and I could only do so much with the contrast and color correction tools in photoshop.

It's another foray into mixed media with colored pencils and watercolor that I did sometime last summer. We had to pick a theme for a series of sketchbook pictures, and I picked fish--which ended up being mostly goldfish and koi, because I adore them ♥

One of the prompts for the summer assignment was to do a picture that somehow related to the history of the theme. I got the idea to play off of the old sea-maps where the unexplored locations were labeled "here be monsters", but instead of scary dragons, beware of... giant koi with idiotic expressions on their faces?

They aren't very intimidating. The red one looks affronted at best, I'd say... and instead of an old map, it smacks more of a Japanese print. But I like it! This is one of my favorite portfolio pieces, and I'm really sad that it didn't photograph properly :c

Also, I did all of the little swirlies on the waves by hand with colored pencil. It took a very long time XD
