It looks like someone's set fire to a paper sky. Wonderful.

Quite alright! Β
Haven't had much to say lately, I'm afraid. How is 2018 shaping up for you?

Fine and peaceful, yet kinda busy.
So much stuff to do; book 2, dogs, work, other small projects. . .

And you?

SaltAddict In reply to Floreina-Arts [2018-02-06 08:58:26 +0000 UTC]

Similar, actually! Plenty to do, but the workflow is steady and pleasant and, quite often, actually fun.
Very different to the past. And I'm glad for it.

So you've completed the first book? That's so exciting!

I'm glad to hear you're having fun!

Yep, all ready and waiting to be sent forward. Hopefully they'll publish!
I'm aready working actively on part 2 and got inspired for a scifi series.

My luck is with you!
Is it written in Finnish..? And are you designing the covers yourself?

No, in English. I want it international right away.

I have no idea about the covers. . . but I'm pretty
sure the company chooses the covers, if they even decide the publish.
I'm kinda panicked if my English is good enough, but I'll never know unless I try.

That's exactly right. And you seem to have better spelling, grammar and structure than many native English speakers on the internet, so I have a feeling that won't be much of an obstacle for you. As for the covers, I think you're right about the publisher choosing; at the same time, though, I wouldn't rule out your photography as part of the contending art to choose from. If you so wanted, of course.

Terrific, I'll be able to read it!

Aww, you flatter me.
On internet I don't pay too much attention to grammar, just
giving quick replies and thank yous, always meaning them, of course.
I do not believe in empty flattery.
The book I have triple checked with grammar book and dictionary.
I have learned so much! It has been quite a journey!

I'm not sure if my photos would fit as a cover for this series,
maybe some other. I think it would be kinda cool if they made the
covers look like old leather, with metal corners, like in really old books.
It would fit the contents of the books best, but we'll see.

Thank you so much! I really hope they'll find it good enough to publish.
Haven't send it yet, though; I have to wait till they change the system
to digital submission. But that's easier and cheaper for me. Β

Neither do I. It does more damage than good.
When you put it that way, writing a book might be the best way to cement a new/other language. Interesting thought.

Mm, I miss the old style of binding books! They were made with such care and using solid materials, to last. But that's an irrelevant train of thought, I'm sorry. XD

No need for thanks.
Switching to digital, that's a brave move. It's great that things become easier overall, but I really hope the easy access doesn't result in a swamp of half-hearted attempts at writing. Approval might be years in the waiting if that happens.

About old style books; I completely agree!
Now, if the book's a long one, you read it twice and
it falls apart. I so hate it when that happens. . .
Real leather covers would be cool, but I'm pretty
sure some would be WAY too expensive.
And not all people like to touch those. . .

That's what I fear. . . the long wait to know
whether they approve or not.
But oh, well: I can work on other books while I wait.
I finish the series anyways, published or not.
I write for myself, not for money and fame.

Β Very true, they can be terribly expensive, but with good reason. And... well, these days they don't have to be bound in leather,Β really, just something equally as durable. Surely that's not too big an ask? I'm willing to bet we have plenty of artificial materials which fit the bill and could be used instead.
My point, I think, is I'd prefer more care and pride to be taken in the production/end-product of books. They're still precious, and should be treated as such. (And not just by jacking up the prices. That doesn't count. )

Β All too glad to hear you say that. That's exactly how writing should be.Β Β
