I've sat on the next bench down from this guy during this spring past - I'm pretty sure he's a regular there at weekends. I remember being struck at the time by his quiet and calm - and that hat - like a still centre around which all the regular chaos of Richmond riverside was happening Great pic

that is so weird!!! I saw him for the first time in my life for 5 minutes. And you are telling me that you have seen him before?

It is a small world afterall....

thank you so much

yep - I was sat eating lunch and just noticed him on the next bench down - I think it was the hat, and also he reminds me of someone (not sure who)

I prefer the tagline from the Planetary comicbook - "Its a strange world. Let's keep it that way"

can you believe that I havent had a chance to explore my new camera???? I dont have a bloody clue yet! lol

I started a new job and my life is a bit messy at the moment, so my photography and DA is a stress relief tool.

Hopefully in the future I will be able to produce much better results, if I actually give some time to my beloved hobby!!

thank you you are very kind

You are absolutely right... it is not so easy to capture the emotion that is created by what u see... This is the difficulty and what makes a photo great and another ordinary... I like the way u do it!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

fluxuspoem In reply to daem66 [2004-11-07 17:35:32 +0000 UTC]

street is a category that is full of emotions. or at least that is how I see it, so many different reactions, interaction, people, faces, characters, moods.

Street photography is easy cause everything is just there, you just capture it and its lovely

Thank you

did you ask him?

fluxuspoem In reply to Foto-Graf84 [2004-11-02 20:27:13 +0000 UTC]

no I didnt. I just positioned the camera in a way that wasnt directly in the middle giving the impression that I am playing around with my camera and taking photos of the buidlings at the background lol lol
I have to use my tricks in order not to offend people

Thank you very much

This is a lovely photograph Alex. The background is fairly busy as someone mentioned, but it's a great shot. Love his hat. I want a hat like that! lol

another lonely & sad one, although not nearly as grim as Imprisoned
[link]

Love the pattern on the jacket. In both these lonely pieces, there's a quiet nobility (can I use that word?) portrayed by your human subjects.

fluxuspoem In reply to GRB [2004-11-02 20:23:05 +0000 UTC]

yes, that is what I love about the people I shoot. I feel particularly touched by people who are behaving, living and existing that way. That kind of proudness that is not loud the dignity and the beauty of individuality.
I admire this as no 1 value in my life. And I try to portray it every time I can.

Thank you for the awesome comments, you make me want to elaborate, a thing that I usually find hard to do in responses.

When looking at these kinda pics I always wonder where the photographer is seated - how close to the person and stuff. I always feel so annoyed when I walk around with my cam pointing it to strangers; or at least that is when they spotted you..

Keep up the work!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fluxuspoem In reply to Qbikaris [2004-11-02 19:49:18 +0000 UTC]

I was sitting on the bench next to him, but I didnt point the camera at him. Sometimes you have have to frame that person at the side of your picture and then crop it to your liking.
Or at least that is what I do. The unessecary right hand side buildings are all cropped out.

Thanks for the lovely comment

Thank you Dave! Well I have my own little trick. I never position the subject in the middle, so usually my lense is pointing a bit on the right or on the left of the subject, but I always make sure to focus on them first and them move my camera slightly and take the photo.
This way they act normal and they dont care and you get extra close up photos with lovely spontanous results

Thanks again

daveainley In reply to fluxuspoem [2004-11-03 07:59:51 +0000 UTC]

good trick. i pull that one, too, sometimes. its a perfect recipe for success. you never want your subject dead center of your shot anyway (well at least not in 95% of all shots) so it's guaranteed to make everyone happy.

There's something slightly mysterious about this, I'm not too sure whether it's the tone of the poem, or the subject itself. Very nice contrasts.

I think its the person in the photo. He had this kind of look that reminded me of the past. Something out of a book. A special character.
