My Mermaids

Another one from my traveling around the world sketch book.
Prismacolours and black paper, A4 sized.

And this photo actually looks like the picture.
I know her face is a mess - that's what happens when I sketch rather than colour, I make a lot of 'figuring out' lines and then it is too late...

She's meant to be quite stylised, and I wanted to draw something slightly more original than your standard mermaid.

Drawn in about an hour, while 'working' in my Uncle's fisheries office

This is probably one of the most beautiful and inspiring pieces of a mermaid that I've ever seen.

Love it! I soooo have a thing for working on black paper....it provides such a dramatic backdrop and really makes those colors pop!

I don't really think you need critiquing here. It flows really well, love the looseness, and, the colors you chose!

Okay, just a reminder, even when you're, "just sketching", to stay away from your paper's edges. You never know when it may wind up being better than you expected.

Now, excuse me while I go remind myself of the same thing....lol.

bah, the edge thing is one reason I shifted to digital. I have no ability to draw at the right size and my borders keep changing.

This one is quite remarkable. At first i thought it was a woman looking down and to the left before I realized there was a face on top looking the other way. Interesting how different the small size is versus the larger size in terms of what jumps out. I want to see more,
