STAMPEDE!!
Response To : Another herd seems to be lost in the cave as well, but a whole crap ton of murderous bats brave bat comes to show them the way out.
-----
SUMMARY
Utah's herd meets Caleb's, and the two stallions get ready to battle. Before they begin though they are interrupted by millions of bats that chase them out of the cave. The stallions decide not to fight and both go on their own separate ways.
-----
As the four horses rounded the corner into a large cavern, Utah stopped suddenly, his eyes catching sight of the massive herd before him. It was easy to see the stallion, his bright flame-like coat catching in what little light there was, while his six mares followed closely behind him. One of the mares was absolutely massive, and Utah's eyes widened in alarm. What in the world was this herd??
Behind him, Arizona let loose a soft nicker, and the whole herd froze in alarm. Utah pinned his ears back in annoyance. The bloody youngster couldn't have just stayed silent, could she?? Immediately the opposite stallion bugled his presence and Utah snorted in response, staying where he was. If he didn't act like a threat, perhaps he wouldn't have to get in another fight, especially since his head was still throbbing. The two large studs stood and eyed each other for a moment, and Utah knew it would not be his lucky day today. Perhaps the chestnut was sure of his strength and saw Utah as an opportunity to get three new mares. Perhaps he felt threatened by the dunskin. Whatever his motive, the large lad stamped his foot in dominance and began to charge his way towards the little herd. Utah was not going to let Georgia and his unborn foal about to be taken from him (... as well as the other two mare he guessed...) and began to charge in return.
But then again, maybe it was Utah's lucky day.
The two stallions stopped in unision as a sudden roar filled their ears. Screeches began to pierce the black, and a cloud even darker than the inside of the cave rushed into the opening. Millions upon millions of bats had been awoken by the clamor, and swarmed the two herd. Every equine paniced. It was utter chaos. Hooves began flying in every direction, trying to escape the noise, bites, and terror of the bats and soon a stamped of eleven horses echoed throughout the cave. No horse had actual thoughts in the disorder, but instinct took over all of them, and their thunderous hooves beat against the stone, racing in whichever dirction the lead horse was in.
Haphazard terror ran through the combined herds, no one knowing if they would escape the wingbeats and noise. Utah had raced to the front along with the chestnut stallion, to lead the frightened mares with whatever skill they posessed, hoping against hope no one ran into a wall, or tripped on a rock. An almost audible sigh slipped through the pandemonium as a sliver of light appeard around the corner they all turned, and in an instant their faces were bathed in sunlight.
A whinny of gratitude escaped one of the mare's lips, and the eleven horses raced into the sun, leaving the horrid bats behind. With a snort, the two stallions eyed each other again as the herd split themselves into two. An unspoken truce passed between the two studs, and with a short blow, Utah's herd broke away from the chestnuts and loped through an easy clearing, distancing themselves from the cave.
