Description The little girl looked up with dark eyes, almond shaped pools of wonder. Breathlessly, letting the whisper roll off her lips with languid awe, she mouthed one word. "Unicorn". The creature dropped its head to her outstretched hand and met her gaze. "Unicorn?" it asked, arching a feathered brow. "Have you no idea what I am?"

I had a dream last night about a kirin and a little girl. I woke up with an itch to draw the creature. I rarely use red like this, and I wanted the challenge of trying a warm color scheme. 8 1/2 x 11", watercolor, acrylic and india ink on illustration board.

Whoa Awesome! I have some of my own Kirins in my gallery, but not with a great story behind them. Awesome again!

Neat picture... even neater story behind it. I love how vibrant the reds are in this... though I am really curious as to what the Kanji (?) to the side means. Mind clueing me in?

It translates roughly to 'horse knowledge' When I was fiddling with naming the piece I wanted to name it something like 'Know thyself' - the phrase 'No matter what people call you or think you are, you KNOW who YOU are' kept coming into my mind. It made me think of a lot of things, which I could babble on forever, but I wanted the wording to represent self-knowledge and wisdom.

'Horse Knowledge,' eh? Nifty stuff... And I really like the self-knowledge, 'you KNOW who YOU are' concept... That sort of thing pops up a lot for some folks. It's always nice when dreams or whatnot make you think... and even cooler when they can inspire a peice. ::Grins:: The story and intentions behind this one are just as interesting as the art is!
