Description I apologize for the bold copyrights and textured background and small size, but these would be a bit too easy to copy otherwise. (Purchased prints will NOT contain these bold copyrights, of course!)

I've always wanted to create an original alphabet of letters done in Celtic artistic style with knotwork and spirals. Each letter was pencil drawn on a 4"x4" piece of illustration board (I cut down a few large pieces) and then I inked them in using a .005 Micron pen (I used two pens actually - wore the first one down to the metal support barrel), and then digitized/scanned them, etc. This project took me about two months to complete!

You can see a bit more of the detail and see the products available with these monograms at my shop: [link]

Amazing! this must have taken forever. I love the attention to details!

and for a minute I thought the J was backwards, then I realized I've been writing it backwards for my entire life. xD

Thanks! Well, it took a solid month of intense effort at least - seemed like forever at times, especially when I was still at the front of the alphabet - LOL!

Funny about the 'J' thing,

Kristen

Thanks so much! I am a leaf-fanatic, myself - try not to use them TOO much, but it seemed to be a nice, organic element to tie the design together.

I love your use of leaves and spirals in the spaces around them. The YinYan in the O is nice, so is the Beast in the E. Each one of these is just breathtakingly beautiful. and just a momment ago I was standing in front of the keyboard clapping Well done. I am particularly fond of your use of studded ribbon and groved ribbon and the pleasing thickly mitered corners. Now in I E and R (the latter to a lesser extent) you have knots that just didn't work out to be unending lines so you made the minor interlaced loops thin so they stood out. Not everyone is going to look so closely and you could have gotten away leaving them the same thickness. I'm probably the only one looking this closely. The more I look at your unique yet completely traditional tastes in spirals the more I wish I had an eye for drawing curves.

foxvox In reply to Apothacer [2006-01-29 18:24:09 +0000 UTC]

Wow - thanks so much - what cool critical insights and observations! I did actually try to take advantage of the non-unending ones - figured it was there, why not add another bit of contrast. Spirals are tricky - I've gotten a few down pat but they are still a whole subject unto themselves - yah.

IMPRESSIVE!!
The z and the round letters are my favorites. You must have the paitience of a saint.

foxvox In reply to MPFitzpatrick [2006-01-29 18:21:47 +0000 UTC]

The Z and G are two of my favorites too - funny! Patience? I think it's more like a pig-headedness or stubborness to finish. Patience might imply a bit too much... calmness on my part - LOL!! (BTW - I've been a fan of your art ever since I first saw your Cafepress shop!)

Thanks,

that's soooo great! It's been a long time since you uploaded a celtic knotwork, and this one's just fantastic! Great job! Have a nice day

LOL - thanks! That 'jaw dropping' emoticon is cracking me up. (All of my art seems to rotate in phases - I'm sure it'll swing back into doing Celtic knotwork more - right now it's painitng. I suppose that after doing all those letters I needed a little break - heh.)

Thanks for looking - have a great day yourself,

Kristen
