Wow! I'm actually designing a Myst indie game, and this shot reminds me of part of its starting area that I've already designed. Long, stark, metal (or wooden) catwalks with imposing iron structures nearby really bring back that charm, don't they?

It kind does look like something out of Myst. Nice find and photo.

Yes, I HAVE. Gehn... Gehn... ...your operatic powers strike us with awe.

I honestly can't tell whether this looks more like Stoneship's lighthouse, or the small board path to a switch outside the Golden Dome... In any case, nice job!

OMG! LMAO! We've had a whole exam on "Die Nordsee" in German class last month! If only I'd mentioned Myst in there, maybe I would have had a bonus mark!

Ben, c'était seulement mon interpretation de cette scène, tu pourrais voir une chose complètement differente!
Mais en effet la mer du nord est très mysterieuse, par exemple toujours grise et froide. ^^

Yeah, if you know the series this brings back a lot of cool memories. And I'd put it into the first Myst, too, in the sequels the buildings got more complex.

I can´t remember a game taking myself so deep at nights than MYST or Riven, they´ve got something special

Freq245 In reply to Tiny-B [2009-01-04 12:26:24 +0000 UTC]

The Riven atmosphere indeed is something to remember... wow... but I liked Myst IV's a lot, too.

Tiny-B In reply to Freq245 [2009-01-04 12:50:22 +0000 UTC]

Riven was absolutely fantastic,I remember I got stuck in the puzzle of the freacking little balls and could do nothing for about 2 years XDDD,just playing around here and there, checking everything again and again just in case I missed something...and one night, finally, the light came to me.

Last one I played was Exile, great as well.I think I should play IV,dont know why I have not played yet! ><

Freq245 In reply to Tiny-B [2009-01-04 17:25:03 +0000 UTC]

V is not that great, you don't have to go for it. But IV, dude, is way way better than Exile... phenomenal graphics, perfect atmosphere in the worlds and the story is just so sad... and extremly well told. I can just highly recommend you get that game... should cost nearly nothing by now, but still needs a good computer. Anyway, it surely is one of my all-time favourites.

That´s one of the things, apart from all the rest, that made me love theese games.I mean the way the story is told, even in the first game it´s absolutly brilliant.

I played them on psx and ps2,did not have a computer by then.I think that now that I have one I should not only find IV but get them all and replay as it´s meant to be.

I´ll go for it man, thank you.

No probs, as IV is so worth it.

And this gets our little tribute to its end XD jaja,I would chat about Myst for ages. It´s one of that games that you love or hate, there is no middle point. Many people have told me that it is horrible, damn slow and without esence...and they don´t have an idea of what it hides. But this happens with many things, you can not make someone to feel the same like you.

Back to the photo.I don´t know if you just found this place by chance or if it is well known to you,but many years ago I found a moment like this:I was on holydays in another town, and went to a friend´s house. He was showing me the many rooms, and when he got me to a little wooden house that was at the garden,I saw what could perfectly be a scene from the gamesld wooden walls and dusty furniture, and a table with a candle,a book and an ink recipient on it.My friend told me that he found them while having a look at the old stuff of his late grandfather, and that he placed them that way just because he thought it looked nice XD Of course,he never heard about Myst,he´s not a gamer, but the shot (if I had a camera in that moment >< ) would have been totally brilliant as well.

Anyway, whatever it looks like taken from the game or not it´s an excellent photo, there are not places like that in Spain.

I found it more or less by chance... it's still used as a lighthouse, but the stairs immediately reminded me of Myst, too. There were too many people. unfortunately, who destroyed the atmosphere a little bit.
I'd have loved to see the scene you described... I'm always looking for places like that. Often I'm not able to photograph them, but it's just such a great feeling to walk to these places. Especially when you don't see anybody.

That´s another point for the games, specially in the first one:the feeling of total loneliness.

Freq245 In reply to Tiny-B [2009-01-09 13:28:44 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I remember that... In Riven there always was someone there, but nonethless I liked it better than Myst I. I was really young when i played the first two, but I thought of Riven even years after I played it for the first time. Haaa. However, when I come back from France I have to replay Myst I.

This image caught my eye when I saw it in the =Nikonist club's Gallery.

I like this shot very much. The wide angle lens creates a great atmosphere. Excellent use of toning, and perspective makes this a quality image. You are obviously a very talented Photographer.
