Yep, it is. Ironically, the fake cast ones you can get at art supply stores cost about three times as much as buying a real one off some guy in Texas. The more you know

I am fascinated by this horrific creature, especially his glowing mouth.

I love that your gallery has such a wide variety of art in it (and most of it scares the crap out of me).

i have so much weird shit in my head that every night i look with relief on that thing and think "well at least there's one that i got out into the world and don't have to worry about anymore" because the rest are pinging phantom-like off the walls.

he's got a steel frame, but aside from that and the skull, just regular muslin and fiberfill. oh, and the lights. he's got some internal wiring. he can run for a week on a D battery.

LynnNexus [2006-12-09 21:47:57 +0000 UTC]

That is really cool looking though my curiocity must question.

What fabric did you use and what kind of stuffing? It looks like you used a lightweight fabric and regular fiberfill. And is this hand stitched or machine stitched? looks hand stitched but with tiny stitches...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

friendbeast In reply to LynnNexus [2006-12-10 15:11:33 +0000 UTC]

He's just regular old unbleached muslin and fiberfill, yeah. Hand-stitched also, since I had to sew around the frame. It took a slow eternity.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LynnNexus In reply to friendbeast [2006-12-10 17:15:24 +0000 UTC]

thats what I kinda figured ^_^ Though I think you probably should have torn you're fiberfill a wee bit smaller because it looks a wee bit lumpy in the arms... but other than that it looks super kewls. And I imagine it did take a long time... hand stitching properly takes lots of time and then to have to work around the frame would take even longer.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

friendbeast In reply to LynnNexus [2006-12-10 19:44:49 +0000 UTC]

yeah, i had to re-stuff his arms a few times due to my being a dumbass, and the fiberfill pilled a bit. argh. i'm thinking for the next one i will sew the fabric around carved foam or something, to make it supersmooth.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LynnNexus In reply to friendbeast [2006-12-10 20:23:05 +0000 UTC]

might not bee a bad idea... or if you want to use stuffing may I suggest trying to put a layer of quilter's batting? it should help to smooth out any lumps that fiberfill makes and since it's a sheet you can just cut it to the shape you want and stick it in first or layer it over the form.

Course I don't know how you do this so It's unlikely that my suggestion will work because I really don't know what you've done in the first place ^_^ but yea... the only reason I noticed the lumps was because I sew myself ^_^

friendbeast In reply to LynnNexus [2006-12-10 20:55:59 +0000 UTC]

it's too late for this particular one i think, but that's a really good suggestion. i'm fairly new to sewing so i appreciate all tips and tricks.

^_^ I kinda figured that it was a bit late >.<

And I'm happy to help whenever I can... anyway... even if you're new to sewing you're really good ^_^

IPushedHumptyDumpty [2006-12-09 20:19:03 +0000 UTC]

So okay, I'm trying to figure this one out:
That snout it actually a skull protruding, and there is actually a light source inside? (At first glance I thought it was that sham-glam gold material)
The whole body reminds me of a huggable, sloth-like beast, which is oddly welcoming.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

friendbeast In reply to IPushedHumptyDumpty [2006-12-10 15:13:35 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the snout is a skull. There are a few LEDs anchored in his mouth that connect to a switch in his .. uh .. underside.

He is oddly huggable. The cat sleeps between his paws. I should post a picture of that.
