THE HORROR! THE SOUNDS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE EVERYWHERE SPLITTING THEIR SIDES IN SPASMS OF LAUGHTER! That's right; the exposition is finally over, and now we're getting to see the very concepts that inspired me to think of this silly little story. In particular, the sign-switching mischief that was inspired by the Captain Underpants series of books.
The "Fried Krap" sign was inspired by a real-life anecdote that my mom and dad once told me. When they went to a supermarket one time, they said that the "Fried Carp" section was misspelled as "Fried Crap." I bet the people selling said carp were wondering why their sales weren't as high as usual...
Plus, people who've played some of the Pokemon games will recognize that 500 Pokedollars is the price you have to pay to buy a Magikarp from a certain shady person. And yes, Treble and Rigley painted an extra three zeros onto the price. Is Treble trying to help the vendor make a killing, or protesting the poaching of innocent Magikarps? You decide!
